Get your game on, go play
Hey, now, you’re a Rock Star get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold,
Only shooting stars break the mold.
These lyrics were pretty much a soundtrack to my teen years.
Back in 2001, a film came out that I think, had pretty much the best soundtrack ever; Shrek. It was, and still is, the only actual soundtrack CD that I have actually ever bought and listening to the songs, takes me right back to my early teens. I can remember making a copy for a friend ‘on tape’, remember being in my bedroom listening to it, singing along, learning the words instead of doing homework. Isn’t it funny how music can take you right back to a certain time and place?
Now, it’s not the best film I’ve ever seen, even at the time I remember thinking it wasn’t all that. But I did love the soundtrack it had. It really suited the film and its audience and it fitted the mood of the film – funny, light hearted and cute. (It was also the first film / soundtrack that introduced me to the delicious voice that is Jason Wade’s. Beautiful).
The songs on the soundtrack are:
- Stay Home – Self
- I’m a Believer – Smash Mouth
- Like Wow – Leslie Carter
- It is You (I have Loved) – Dana Glover
- Best Years of Our Lives – Baha Men
- Bad Reputation – Halfcocked
- My Beloved Monster – Eels
- You Belong to Me – Jason Wade
- All Star – Smash Mouth
- Hallelujah – Rufus Wainwright
- I’m on My Way – The Proclaimers
- I’m a Believer (reprise) – Eddie Murphy
- True Love’s First Kiss – Harry Gregson-Williams
I love a good night in watching a film. With little kids, its quite often what we end up doing on an evening. The kids will be in bed and the hubs and I will curl up, have some chocolate and put a movie on Netflix.
What is your favourite soundtrack?
