I think that only people that know me well know that I actually wear glasses. The reason being is that I wear my contact lenses so often (and for so long each day), that I am hardly ever seen in my glasses. But I’ll admit it, I have the worst eyesight and use contact lenses to help correct my vision.
I have been a contact lenses wearer for 15 years now, starting when I was 15 (as I couldn’t stand to wear glasses back then either).
So as a result, I have tried a pretty wide range of lenses and all sorts of varieties too, from dailies, to monthly ones to fortnightly ones. So when I heard about luxury contact lens start-up, Waldo, I was eager to put their lenses to the test and see if I could see the difference from ones I have worn before.
The contacts that I was sent to try out were their regular daily lenses and some of their new vitamin daily lenses. And if you’re anything like me, you might be a little but skeptical about the sound of some ‘vitamin’ lenses; would they really make a difference? I have been using dailies for a while, but some brands that I have used can get really dry throughout the day and even hurt. At dinner a couple of months ago I actually had to take one of my daily lenses out (not Waldo ones, I might add), as they were so uncomfortable. Luckily I was at home and could pop my glasses on. But it put me off the brand (starting with an A), for sure.
The difference is on the saline solution that the lenses comes in, is patented, having extra Vitamin B6, B12, E in that regular lenses. Meaning that these leave your eyes feeling more refreshed as the day goes on.
How Did Waldo Lenses Compare?
I have got to admit, that even between the regular daily Waldo lenses and the vitamin lenses, I really noticed a difference. The regular lenses were still pretty comfortable as far as dailies go. But I loved wearing the vitamin ones; no pain, redness, soreness, or dry eyes. I was honestly surprised at how much difference I noticed, as you can kind of think that saying something is a ‘vitamin’ version is a bit of a gimmick. But truly, I noticed the difference with them, they were so nice to wear.
Why Daily Lenses?
I personally prefer wearing daily lenses as I have had some issues with my eyes in the past getting ulcers on my cornea and scratches. I think, no matter how hard we try, we can’t always clean them as well as we think that we can. So having dailies, and just throwing them away at the end of the day, makes it much more hygienic and safer for eyes. Plus, if you like to mix it up a little, which I need to do more of, it doesn’t ‘waste’ a day of lenses if you decide to wear your specs that day.
Any Other Benefits of Waldo Lenses?
Well, my first impression of the lenses was that they were super slick and stylish. The simple blue and white design of the boxes and branding is really modern and striking. The lenses are also made up of nearly 60% water to help keep your eyes feeling good. And after looking into it, another brand of dailies that I have been using was only 38% water content – no wonder they irritated my eyes so much!
The sun protection for Waldo lenses is comparable to other lenses, as is the oxygen permeability, so you know you’re not getting any less in those cases either.
Priced at £16 for a month’s supply of the vitamin dailies for one eye (£12 for regular Waldo lenses or £24 for both eyes), it really is comparable to other brands of daily lenses. Plus, I have really felt the difference using the vitamin contact lenses over ‘regular’ ones. So if you are a contact lens wearer, or a glass wearer that wants to give lenses a try, I would really recommend trying out Waldo, the vitamin lenses especially. They feel as fresh when you take them out at the end of the day, as they did putting them in.
Have you ever heard of Waldo lenses before? Do you wear contact lenses or glasses? would love to hear what you think!
