Weight loss can be a challenge but with the right strategy in place and determination, easily done. There are a number of ways in which you can lose weight, from exercising regularly and changing your diet to making sure you drink plenty of water and reducing your alcohol intake – if making these changes and it doesn’t work, alternative options are available such as weight loss surgery

When making changes to your daily routine, try not to put too much pressure on yourself. If you are setting a target, make it realistic and achievable, this way you stick to it. We would recommend trying to combine a few of the tips below, instead of doing them all at the same time. This way you don’t overwhelm yourself with change. If you are finding them easy enough, you can then make other changes on top to achieve greater results.

To help you with losing weight, below we have put together a guide on three simple ways to lose weight.

Exercise Regularly

The key to losing weight is to exercise regularly as well as look after your diet. Regular running will not only help with losing weight – due to the number of calories you burn – but it is also beneficial for your mental health, physical health and stress. You’ll build strength in your leg muscles as well as internal muscles like your heart, whilst also decreasing the risk of you getting an illness. There is a whole range of sports that you can take part in depending on your interests. If you want to exercise alone, running, cycling or swimming are great options. For those of you who enjoy exercising with others, team sports like football, cricket, rugby, and tennis could be for you. Why not convince a friend to join you when exercising, this way they motivate you to do it together – this also helps you be more consistent.

Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water

Alongside exercising regularly, staying hydrated is important for a number of reasons including weight loss. On a daily basis, it is recommended you drink around 2-3 litres of water for your body to operate at its optimum. Drinking water will help you to concentrate, reduce the feeling of sluggishness and help with weight loss. The reason is, when you are feeling thirsty, you can mistake this for feeling hungry, therefore you eat more to stop this feeling, taking in the additional calories. By having a drink of water with you, drink this instead, helping reduce the feeling of hunger and stopping you from eating unnecessary calories. A useful trick to increase the amount of water you drink is to fill a 2-litre water bottle up at the start of the day. By the end, make sure you have drunk all of it. When it’s empty you know you have drunk 2-litres and drunk the amount you are supposed to drink daily.

Reduce the amount of alcohol you drink

Alcohol is a big contributor to putting on weight. When drinking on a regular basis, the number of calories in an alcoholic drink is very high which can add up hugely after a night out drinking. When trying to lose weight, one of the first areas to look at is how much alcohol you drink. By reducing the number of drinks you have each week, you can quickly reduce the amount of calories you consume, helping you lose weight. When reducing the amount you drink try not to cut out drinking completely as it’s impossible to stop doing the things you love completely. Instead, slowly reduce the number to a more manageable amount. For example, only have a drink 2 days a week instead of 3 days or only on the weekends.

We hope the above five tips help you in your goal to lose weight. As mentioned above, set realistic targets and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Try to achieve your goal gradually and don’t deprive yourself of treats – otherwise, you won’t stick to your change of routine. There are also other simple ways to lose weight, so if any of the above doesn’t work, with a little research online, you’ll find a whole plethora of other ways to do it.
