4 Ways to Enrich Your Life

Being a mum is rewarding, but it’s also a lot of hard work. And everyone who is one will tell you that, although they’re a mummy first, they’re not just someone’s mother. Mums have their own lives too, with hobbies, likes and dislikes, and plenty of emotions. Sometimes it can feel like being a mum is the only thing you do, between school runs, housework and helping with homework. Even if you love every part of being a mum, it’s important to take some time to enjoy yourself too. Your life should be fulfilling in every way, and there are lots of ways to enrich it. Try these creative ways to make sure you have variety and enrichment in your life, both with and without the kids.

Writing is a fantastic way to express yourself. There are hundreds of different ways to do it, depending on what you want to get out of it. You could write fiction or poetry, and perhaps enter competitions or try to get published. This type of writing is a brilliant way of stretching your imagination. Or you could write something that’s more non-fiction, from a diary to a blog or even essays. You can be creative, work through your thoughts and feelings, and maybe even make some money.

  • Create with Paint

If you’re not very good with words, why not try being more visual instead? You can create art in so many different ways that everyone can find something they like. And it’s perfect to do alongside the kids too. They can do some crafting while you paint a watercolour, sketch a still life or create a collage. If you don’t feel very confident, start by following some tutorials, like the ones on http://www.noexcusesart.com. You just have to copy everything that the lesson shows you to do. Once you’ve learned a few techniques, you can start experimenting and developing more.

  • Learn to Play an Instrument

Lots of adults wish they had learned to play an instrument when they were younger. It can be a bit more difficult once you’re older, but you can still do it. Playing a musical instrument is an amazing way to forget about your troubles and get into the zone. You could have lessons or try to teach yourself to play. Once you’ve picked up the basics, you can enjoy learning your favourite pieces and play them for your family. You could even join a band or an amateur orchestra.

  • Join a Choir

Another way to get musical is by joining a choir. Not only is this a creative and fun thing to do, it’s very social too. Singing with others is a brilliant way to make new friends and get to know people better. You can attend rehearsals once a week, and spend the rest of your time practicing as your do your daily tasks. If you’re nervous about auditioning, look for a non-auditioning choir that will let anyone join.

If you feel like you don’t have enough of your own life, these activities are easy to fit around other duties. Find some time for yourself to keep your mind stimulated when the kids aren’t around.
