Singapore is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Southeast Asia and in this short article, we present 5 of the most iconic tourist attractions that you should add to your holiday schedule.
- Marina Bay Sands – Perhaps the most iconic of all Singapore’s attractions, Marina Bay Sands is an upmarket resort that was opened in 2010. It consists of a huge casino, Art Science Museum and top-class hotel with 1,850 suites, plus there is a 120,000 square metre convention centre. If you are feeling lucky, why not have a go on the roulette wheel or play a few hands of blackjack? There is also an upmarket shopping mall where you can buy luxury goods at discounted prices. You are never far from a superb Halal hotel buffet in Singapore, while other cuisines are well represented.
- Sentosa Island – You cannot visit Singapore and not experience this amazing place! Located off the Southern coast of Singapore, Sentosa Island is home to Universal Studios Theme Park, which is a must-visit attraction, especially if you are travelling with kids! The main beach is 2km long and is a great place to relax and enjoy water sports. Singapore has two casinos, the largest is at Marina Bay Sands, while the other is located on Sentosa Island. Singapore Oceanarium is well worth a visit for a close-up of the varied marine life, which is very educational.
- Gardens By The Bay – This unique park is adjacent to the Marina Reservoir, a 260-acre spread that consists of three waterfront gardens. Bay South Garden is the largest of the three, 130 acres of horticulture and tropical flora and fauna; the orchid is Singapore’s national flower and it is well represented in this beautiful park. Bay East Garden is 79 acres of a series of tropical leaf-shaped gardens, each with its own unique theme. The last feature is Bay Central Garden, which acts as a link to Bay South and Bay East Gardens and is a great place for a waterside stroll.
- Little India – Situated east of Singapore River, this ethnic district has long been the home for Indian immigrants who made Singapore their home. Serangoon Road is the main thoroughfare of Little India, where you will find many Indian businesses, such as restaurants and souvenir shops. The culture is uniquely Indian and even though many Indian people live in other parts of Singapore, Little India is still a very popular place for ethnic Indians to congregate. There are many colourful festivals throughout the year and you might be lucky enough to witness one! Click here for how to plan the perfect summer break.
- Kampong Glam – Traditionally known as the Muslim area where native Malays first settled in the early 20th century, this is a nice place to stroll around and check out the carpet stores, coffee shops and many restaurants. The architecture is colonial with a hint of the Middle East and you can spend a day wandering around Kampong Glam.
There is much to see and do in Singapore and we feel sure that, if this is your first visit to this unique island nation, it certainly won’t be your last!
