I do have a soft spot for the time of year that we are in at the moment. Though I am a spring baby, there is just something lovely and cosy about autumn and this time of year. The colours, food and fashion are just some of the reasons. There is just something homely and comforting about autumn. Though the weather gets a little cooler, I find it a really nice transitional period.
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

So here are a few more reasons why autumn makes me happy.
Cosy Nights In
Since staying in is the new going out (or that is what I tell myself when we can’t get a babysitter), I do love a cosy night in in autumn. Having a warm drink, some candles lit and a cosy throw on the sofa is, quite possibly sadly, something that I look forward too.
I am a bit of a Netflix addict, but there are also plenty of good things on TV around this time of year. With the darker nights and cooler weather, I think the TV people prepare for more people staying in. One of the shows that I was most looking forward to was the return of The Graham Norton Show that started again this weekend. There are always such good guests on it, which always helps. Norton makes the show really fun too – many a time where I have laughed out loud at it. So it is fab to be able to watch it on a Panasonic UHD TV in the living room.
Pumpkin Spice and Cinnamon Everything
I appreciate that these scents are a little ‘American’. But I love the smells that are associated with this time of year. I love seasonal candles that are scented with cinnamon and spice. It is lovely when they fill the home, as well as having the cosiness that lit candles gives. Though I’m not a coffee drinker, I am a fan of a pumpkin spice hot chocolate in my life.
All the Pies
Autumn just screams wholesome and hearty comfort food, right? And one of those things that we enjoy in our home is pies. It is nice to make things like chicken or vegetable pies. The best are the sweet ones, though, of course. I have already found a recipe for a refined sugar-free pecan pie recipe that I made last week. So I know I’ll be making that again soon, as well as plenty of pumpkin pie!
Layers Upon Layers
I love this time of year for fashion too. Though summer is nice for wearing dresses and pretty things, I love autumn for the layers that you can wear. Having a long cardigan, with an eternity scarf, jacket, skinny jeans and ankle boots is pretty much my thing in autumn. It is just a nice season to layer up and wear a variety of textures and colours.
Celebrating
When you think of this time of year, I think we automatically think of Halloween. I do think that it is a fun thing to celebrate and do look forward to it. I know it isn’t for everyone, though. So I think it is a great time to be thankful and reflect. It is nice to celebrate the harvest and if you’re across the ocean, Thanksgiving. I like when November comes around too, and we have Bonfire Night as a little celebration. I look forward to the red and green of the poppies that we wear in November too. Then you know that Christmas is really on the way…

I never used to rate autumn much. I loved summer and winter but wasn’t fussed about spring and autumn. That’s totally changing now and I love the anticipation that autumn brings! Especially all the cosy nights in and cosy clothes. Everything you’ve mentioned, I’m excited about! And I’m going to have an October baby – ahhh!!x
I totally agree. I love love love Autumn. I can’t wait to get baking some autumn treats too! xo
I’ve just written a very similar post! I much prefer Summer and the warmer weather but Autumn definitely has it’s plus points!
I get so excited by autumn. Pie making, slow cooker meals and lovely walks in the forests. I also love going out to collect firewood from the forests from their log piles. x
I am so with you on Autumn being ace, I absolutely love it. The crisp clear days when it’s gloriously sunny but chilly, the piles of leaves, the gorgeous red trees, I love it all! x
