Places To Go In The UK To Celebrate Autumn With Your Kids

Autumn is here, and the changing of the seasons brings about a natural beauty all over the UK. As the new school year has just begun, there may be fewer opportunities for you and your family to travel, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t take a short road trip sometime within the next few weeks. In a survey of over 1,000 British families, it was found that 69% of respondents love to go on road trips, and what better way to fully appreciate the seasonal colours than to go on the road with your children? To welcome the arrival of autumn, prepare for a car trip with your family to some of the most beautiful places in the UK.

Preparing for your car trip

Whether you’re going on a car trip for just a few minutes or if you’re going on a drive for a few hours, it’s important to be well-prepared, especially if you’re travelling with very young children. First, for your safety and convenience, see if your family travel insurance is up to date. Next, check that your car has all its fluids and that the tyres are in good shape. You may also want to take along a spare tyre, a tool box, and a GPS if you’re unsure how to get to your destination. You’ll also need to pack some spare clothes for the little ones and perhaps an extra shirt for yourself if you’ll be out for most of the day. Don’t forget to bring some snacks and drinks in spill-proof containers, and a few toys or an audiobook to keep your children occupied if you’re going to be on the road for hours. Here are some ideas on where to go to celebrate autumn with your kids in the UK.

Groombridge Place, Kent

Visit the UK’s longest and highest canopy walkway in Groombridge Place. The trail is about 20 metres above the ground and will get you and your children as close as possible to the brilliant leaves of oak, chestnut, and beech trees in the forest. Afterwards, have a nice walk in the gardens or have a go on the giant swings and zip wires. Don’t forget to have tea at the Restaurant and Café which is open daily.

Grizedale Forest, Hawkshead, Lake District

If you want to take a road trip to someplace near the water, then Grizedale Forest is the perfect place for you and your family to celebrate autumn. Enjoy the fiery colour of the oak, larch, elder, and beech trees and marvel at the woodland sculptures in the forest. The famous road trip destination also has a Forest Café, so you and your family can grab a bite during your visit.

Faskally Woods, Perthshire

If you’ve got a mind to visit Scotland, then head to Faskally Woods and enjoy taking a walk in the woods which features oak, birch, aspen, alder, and poplar trees. If you stay until night falls, the forest turns positively magical as Faskally hosts a light and sound show set to an original musical score called The Enchanted Forest.

Visit any of these places with your children to celebrate the arrival of autumn. Enjoy the seasonal colours and have fun! Have you ever been to any of them before?
