Children’s Toys: Are There Any Out There That You Should Avoid?

There are literally hundreds of guides out there telling you what you should buy for your child’s gifts on birthdays, Christmas and so on. But there are barely any guides that tell you what you should avoid or shouldn’t be buying for them! There are probably more things on the list than you realise. Read on to find out what they are.

Bottle Rocket Parties

Bottle rocket parties are popular with kids, because they make noise and can be fun. They can even be a bit of a scientific learning activity for them. However, the bottle rocket party kits don’t come with a pump, or even protective eyewear that would stop kids from hurting themselves. You really need to supervise if they are going to be using something like this. They is nothing wrong with a little experimenting, especially if you’ve got a budding scientist. Just check what is in the pack and get protective gear separately, if need be.

Realistic Looking Toy Guns

Toy guns are usually harmless for kids, which is why they are a popular choice for both boys and girls. Sometimes though, they can present a problem. When a gun looks too realistic, it can get unwanted attention. Tragically, a 12 year old boy was shot in the states as the police believed it to be a real firearm. While I can’t see this being a major problem over here in the UK, I think you should avoid buying realistic toy guns for your kids at all costs! Brightly coloured plastic water gun style ones are visibly fake. You don’t want your child to get too confused if it is real or not, either. You can find out more toys and gadgets you should avoid by doing things like the Hawkin’s Bazaar killer gadgets quiz.

Bean Bags Or Beanie Toys

Bean bags and beanie toys can be really dangerous for young kids. I don’t seem them being a problem for older children, but they certainly are for the littlest of ones. This is because if the bag bursts, the material inside can be a choking hazard for them. Before you buy anything like this, you need to make sure it’s not likely to break. It should be very sturdy, and have good reviews. Make sure you read up first, as some toys will be poorly put together and not recommended for children at all.

Too Many Toys

Buying your kids too many toys in general can be a bad idea. You don’t want them to go without, of course. Buying them some toys is fine. But buying them lots of toys can render their imagination inactive. They must use their imagination and ways to use what they already have when you aren’t constantly buying toys for them, which can only be a good thing! For a comprehensive list of safe and recommended toys for kids, please visit MyKidNeedsThat.com.

Don’t buy these toys for your kids if you want to keep them as safe as possible. If you’re unsure, always look at the recommended age and read reviews on them before you buy. This can save you a lot of trouble in the long run!
