Now we are back in school terms, it pretty much means the countdown to Christmas. For me at least, anyway! But oh, those difficult teenage years when tastes change on a six monthly rotation and what they liked last year is no longer hip today! It’s actually really difficult to buy for those tricky teenagers that you live with 24/7, and you think you know inside out. So here are some foolproof ideas for Christmas gifts this year. Because, you know, everyone but the Grinch is already telling us there are only three months until Christmas! Be prepared, buy early and take the stress out of it all.
14-17 Boys
Boys on the brink of adulthood want to feel cool and tend to think they’re a bit more adult than they actually are. So if he loves his music and likes live streaming in his room, a set of bookshelf speakers from Q Acoustics are going to go down a treat. He’ll love to kit out his room with the latest technology. And the speakers come in a sleek matte graphite and walnut effect for a totally cool den. If your Christmas budget is slightly less, boy’s of this age would also love a set of stylish dumbbells. John Lewis does a great set of Chrome Dumbbells that are the perfect training accessory. They also stock the super awesome Adidas SlamBall that is ideal for upper strength training and muscle definition.
14-17 Girls
Pretty much every teenage girl is going to love a trip to London that includes a spa day at Harrods with their Mum. Head to the super luxurious Urban Retreat and indulge in an hour and twenty-minute signature facial each. Afterwards, you can browse the iconic department store and enjoy macaroons and afternoon tea at Ladurée downstairs. What teenage girl isn’t going to love a special grown up day like that? Another great tip if you are on a smaller budget is to grab anything you can from celebrity favourite makeup brand Anastasia Beverly Hills. It’s the hippest brand on the block, and you just can’t go wrong with a Christmas gift from here. Try Cult Beauty and Beauty Bay who are both UK stockists.

If your teenage son has the obligatory laptop that every teenage seems to need, you could treat him to an iPad come Christmas. Yes, it’s a whimsical addition, but he’ll probably promise to do the chores for at least a week. An iPad is great for him to sling in his bag, take to college and use on train journeys. Justify the price by pretending it’s helping with his schoolwork! If you’ve got a fashion conscious teenage boy looking to impress the girls, why not invest in a Burberry scarf for him this year? It’s one of the more affordable designer items, and he’ll get a lot of wear out of it. It also looks super plush and will give him some style kudos as he navigates the dating scene.

No teenage girl is going to turn down a day out that involves the ultimate pamper of a blow dry or celebrity-inspired hairstyle. Head to Harvey Nichols in London for Hersheshon’s Blow Dry Bar where she’ll get a choice of a tonne of different hair styles. There’s everything from the Wavy Gravy to the Bardot and the Big and Brushed to the Super Straight. And they come in at a very reasonable £28 so that you can treat yourself too! If you want to go a little more luxe why not take her to the iconic Tiffany and Co. store on Bond Street for a timeless piece of jewellery that she’ll treasure forever? Their mini heart tag earrings come in at £130 and are the perfect gift for a teenage girl.
