If you follow me on here regularly or across my social channels, you will probably have noticed that I am on a bit of a journey (sorry, what a cringe word), to live a more sustainable life. I have made changes to what I eat, where I source what I eat, as well as things that we use around the house. The more I look into all of this kind of thing, it can often freak me out, so as long as I know I am making changes then it helps to give me a little sanity. There are so many things that we can be doing, but changes all at once can be overwhelming, which is why I have been doing things little by little.
One of the small but simple things that I have been looking to change is what we use around the home. From swapping out our toothbrushes to bamboo ones, as well as using reusable packaging, jars, and wraps for things like packed lunches, are all small steps to making a difference. I was pretty bad when it came to recycling too, but am now pretty meticulous when it comes to that and only putting in what can or can’t be recycled so that it doesn’t just get chucked and sent to landfill.
One thing that is another small change but can make a difference, especially if you are someone that uses them a lot, and that is looking for drinking straws that are reusable. To help my teeth when having certain drinks, I do like to have a straw, but plastic straws are something that is so bad for he environment, they are mass produced, and they are just thrown away. They can be incredibly bad for wildlife too, especially sea life like turtles. So I was really pleased to be able to try some copper straws from the site Black Qubd. They have some really unique things on there, and have a great range of vegan-friendly products, and sustainable products like the copper straws, as well as things like mango wood bowls.

The straws are hand made which I think is really special and unique, and would be that extra thing if you were buying for someone as a gift. As a result, it makes them all unique as they may have different lines or marks on them.
Why use copper?
Copper is a sustainable material and can be easily washed with soapy water or with a mix of lemon and bicarbonate of soda in water. It is also a material that is known to have antimicrobial properties that can help against some things like bacteria, fungi, and other viruses. So for having around the home or for taking out and about at restaurants, that can be a really great benefit. The material also never wears out; it has continuous and ongoing antimicrobial action.

What Did I Like?
To start off with, I really liked that they straws come in a little washable fabric pouch. It is slim and slender so it can just be packed into a handbag to make it easier to say no to straws when out and about.
The straws themselves are really we’ll made and sturdy. The price of each straw (£9 for the juice one and £12 for the smoothie one), may seem high. But when you hold the straws in your hand you feel how sturdy and well made they are, and they really will last for a long time. Even if something like natural oxidisation occurs, it won’t impede how well they work or stop the natural protecting properties of copper, so really, they can last as long as you want them to. The straws are easy to clean too, and come with a cleaning brush so you can get to all parts of the straw.

I liked that the straws are 100% copper and not just copper plated. Again, that just shows how long lasting they are. But overall, because they are so long lasting and are 100% recyclable and eco-friendly, I liked how much of a positive choice they are for all. I have really enjoyed using mine and have been taking them everywhere (just ask my family)!
If you are interested in getting some of these for yourself, then you can use the code REBECCA10 to get 10% off the straws or 10% off anything from the website.
It would be great to hear what you think!

Oo these look fantastic! I have been looking into reusable straws and have seen a few varieties which all look fab but I love the copper look of these and the fact they come with a handy little brush to clean them too! Like you said all the small changes we can make on a day to day basis add up, if we all just started making small changes just think how much of an impact it would have!

Exactly, small changes make a big long term difference! Glad you like the look of them!
We’ve been using bio-degradable straws, but I’ll have to have a look at these when we run out!
