Cybex AtonQ Car Seat | Review

novy16Chloe has been a pretty lucky little lady recently as she has been trying out a snazzy new car seat – the AtonQ from Cybex, in grape juice. I have been loving that she has been able to try out a girly seat and one that is just for her, instead of using her brother’s old Maxi-Cosi.

The AtonQ can be used from birth to approx. 18 months (0-13kg). This is definitely a bonus. I remember Max was out of his infant car seat at 9 months as he had outgrown it in everyway. It is quite large but you can see that there is still plenty of room for her in it. Plus, the longer they rear-face, in my opinion, the better.

The Cybex brand is German so you know it is well made. It is extremely soft and really feels significantly more padded than any car seat I have used with my kids before. The inside cushion (light pink in the photo) does not come out either. There is a little tab that you pull it up or push it down to get the right position for your baby. If your baby is newborn, they are almost lying flat in this which is ideal. The car seat then grown with them and you don’t have to worry about remembering where you put the insert and cushion is (or is that just me 😉 )

This seat also features something I have never seen or heard of before; Telescopic Linear Side-impact Protection (L.S.P. System). This absorbs the force of a side-impact collision. I found this to be very impressive and extra peace of mind that you know your baby will be super safe, should an accident happen. It is really easy to adjust too, simply pulling it out and then pressing the button and pulling to make it come out further.

The car seat itself is a flexible material designed so that it would absorb the force of an impact and divert that away from the baby. It is quite bulky (and weighs 4.8kg) so it is a little heavy but to me it feels sturdier than other seats I have used before.

I love the sun shade on this car seat. With the Maxi-Cosi it is a bit flimsy and you either have to have it up or down. The AtonQ sun canopy disappears behind a sturdy visor and my favourite thing about it is that it can be extended incrementally which to me, makes it a better protection from the sun, but also from the wind. The visor makes it better protection from the rain too as it really pulls over a lot further than the Maxi-Cosi.

The car seat has an 8-position height-adjustable headrest, which moves the harnesses at the same time, so it makes it almost impossible to do incorrectly. The straps are really soft and well padded, including the padded clip part. You can get an isofix base for the seat but we have only ever used the seatbelt, which works in the exact same way as our Maxi-Cosi one did, which is perfect and straightforward.

There are little details about the AtonQ that have really impressed me, such as rubber pads on the bottom on the seat. When I’ve had the chair on shiny wooden floor or tiles, it does not move or slide around, unlike the other car seat that Chloe has been using. This is useful as she is climbing around and before the seat would just slide away from her – this one is much more stable and sturdy.

I am totally impressed by this car seat, and can see why it has been awarded safety awards, plus impressed by the Cybex brand on the whole. I hadn’t heard of it before now but will definitely look into using them again. I can honestly say, I much prefer this car seat to the previous Maxi-Cosi one we have used. I also think it is fab that you can get adapters to use on travel systems, including Cybex’s own.

The Cybex AtonQ retails at approx. £185 and is available in your choice of 10 colours. I think the seat looks great and delivers on performance too.
