With the release of the new Bridget Jones movie over the weekend, Bridget Jones’s Baby, new Bridget Jones movie have set the challenge of designing a bedroom, fit for the baby. So whether it was a boy or a girl, I thought I would design a room that was fit for either a little Bridget or a little Mr. Darcy. There are so many gorgeous pieces that Barker and Stonehouse have, to was hard to know what to choose.
Here are the pieces I chose:
1.Dorado Cushion // 2. Jellycat Owl // 3. Joep Cabinet Wardrobe // 4. Pendant Light Shade // 5. Jools Magazine Rack // 6. Carrington Chest of Drawers // 7. Woven Storage Baskets // 8. Floyd Swivel Cuddler Chair // 9. Star Rug // 10. Jools Storage Box // 11. Carrington Single Bed
What do you think to the pieces I have chosen? I think the scandi and monochrome style is really stylish, with the grey tones adding some gender neutral colour. I would probably add some pops of yellow or lemon to the room too. It would look good with some wall art, additional cushions or a beanbag.
To start with, I worked the design of the room around the bed. So although this wouldn’t be suitable from birth, the white single bed is just lovely. I love white furniture in children’s rooms. It just looks so fresh and light and as it is wooden it is completely wipeable. Then I chose some matching drawers and wardrobe. Let’s face it, you need plenty of storage for little ones. They seem to outgrow their clothes in an instant! So hanging space and drawers are both useful.
One other thing I know from having children is just how much stuff a child can accumulate. So you do need plenty of storage for toys and books, as well as clothes. I really liked the storage baskets and the storage chest. The grey colours work well to contrast with the other white furniture. they are good sizes too so Bridget would be able to store plenty of toys and bits in them. I thought the magazine rack was a cute alternative to a traditional bookcase. You could even change up what is on it seasonally. I haven’t seen many of these around. Really cute – I want to get one for my daughter’s room!
From a young age I think having a comfy chair in your child or baby’s room is important. To start with it can help you get them to sleep. It can also be nice to read stories together or for your child to sit and read when they are a little older too. So this swivel chair looked super comfy. Perfect colour to match the room too.
The last little accessories were the rug and the light fixture. For the light, it needs to be kept quite simple for little ones. I thought this was a fun style and would keep the room looking bright. I just fell in love with the rug when I saw it. Perfect colours and love the nod to the ‘Britishness’ of Bridget’s baby. And the jellycat owl toy? Because, how cute?!
What do you think you would design the room like?
