3 Gorgeous Destinations to Take a Road Trip to This Summer

If you are don’t have any plans for a summer holiday yet, it isn’t too late. There are still plenty of things that you could do last minute. We do try to have a holiday abroad as well as a holiday somewhere in the UK. There are so many gorgeous places right here that I haven’t ever been to visit. Growing up in Yorkshire, if we stayed in the UK, we would have a trip to the Lake District or head up to Scotland or the east coast of Yorkshire. We sometimes ventured down to Wales, but a trip to Devon or Cornwall was never on the agenda. I understand why we never did; now I’m a parent. I couldn’t imagine a road trip that far with five kids, as it would have been for my parents! But home or abroad, if you do fancy a bit of a road trip this summer, here are some fab destinations that you could visit.

Normandy

The first plus of this area of France is that it is just stunning. I went a while ago on a school trip. Even little ignorant fifteen years old me could appreciate the beauty of it. The beaches are beautiful, so even better if you can get there over a sunny weekend or something. There is, of course, a lot of history in the area so plenty to see and do. Mont St. Michel is a must see, as well as the sites from the war. You could get a ferry or Eurotunnel crossing quite cheaply if it was last minute. Then, if you are in the south, it is only a few hours drive away.

Devon

This is on my list of places to visit. So I can only talk about how gorgeous it is from pictures I have seen. But it just looks stunning. There are some pretty beaches with plenty of walks, and National Trust sites to visit. I think my family needs to visit before our National Trust passes expire! It looks like the area that would be perfect to spend a while in; you could even think about something like motorhome hire. Then you can see all that is on offer, without having to worry too much about where you will be staying.

Pembrokeshire

If you haven’t visited this area of Wales before, you are missing out. It is, as the Welsh would describe, lush. It works well if you are an outdoorsy kind of family. There are lots of water sports, hiking and climbing that you could do. The area is so lovely too. It is so picturesque with all of it’s narrow roads and countryside views. It is a bit of a treck to get to, I must admit. I think that it is worth it, though. You could tie in a visit to Bristol or Swansea along the way if you needed to break up the journey.

Have you got any suggestions for a great place to road trip this summer?
