doTERRA Essential Oils | Review

I was introduced to doTERRA essential oils a few months back and, naïvely, I thought that they were more of a placebo and just a ‘nice’ thing that you can use. How wrong was I?

There are a lot of essential oils that are used in cleaning and laundry products, for example, but they are not the pure grade oils like doTERRA. The dōTERRA are CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils so as a result are pure, naturally aromatic compounds carefully extracted from plants. They do not contain fillers or artificial ingredients that would dilute their active qualities. Proper extraction and quality control methods also ensure that dōTERRA essential oils are free of any contaminants such as pesticides or other chemical residues. The oils are also put through rigorous testing to make sure that they are the most pure and therefore the most beneficial essential oils. What I have also discovered is that they are sourced from all over the world, from the place where the plants grow the best, for example Orange oil from Spain.

The hubs got a family pharmacy kit of the oils for his birthday last month so we have had fun testing out all of the different types and finding their uses. I am in no way an expert and don’t know all that there is to know, but my favourites are:

  • Melaleuca – firstly, I LOVE the smell of this one (Tea Tree oil essentially). It is great for spots / acne. I get a hormonal surge of spots each month and it instantly eases them. I have also used it for when I feel a cold sore coming on and so far, I have always had it work for me and it stops the cold sore in its tracks. It so good to help with cuts, bites or skin conditions and you can add a few drops to shampoo to help ease dandruff. You can also gargle some in water if you have sore gums. Lots of uses.
  • Frankincense – The phrase for this is ‘if in doubt, use Frankincense’. It’s very true! It has a lot of uses such as using as a facial moisturiser. If you diffuse the oil, it is also meant to be great for things like headaches and depression. It has a lot of uses though as it is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antiseptic.
  • On Guard Blend –  it has a very unique aroma but it offers a fragrant and natural alternative for immune support. It’s great to take a few drops when you feel a cold coming on. It is also great to use as a cleaner. I have several drops in a spray water bottle and use it to clean in the kitchen and for the dining table etc. It smells very Chrismassy so I love it. You can also take drops as a protective mouth wash (we recently got an On Guard toothpaste and I really like it).
  • Slim & Sassy Blend – now this one does not smell or taste the greatest, but it really works as an appetite suppressant (so you can look all slim & sassy haha). You should take 3 – 5 drops, either straight on the tongue, in water or on something like bread, 3 – 5 times a day. I have been using this for a few weeks and I have really found it to work. It’s great knowing that I am taking something pure in your body to help weight loss, rather than most dieting products. It’s also really useful as I take it in water, so I’m reminded regularly to drink lots of water – bonus!

There are hundreds of oils that all have different uses and there are several on the blends such as Deep Blue to help with muscular problems and DigestZen to ease and help with digestive or stomach upsets. I think that from what I have experienced, they have worked and it’s a great way to have some natural ways of healing.
