I think that summer is the perfect time to try and be healthier. It is warmer so we tend to want more cold food like salads and fruit. Plus, we want to drink more water and crave nice fresh drinks and more healthy food. I am on a bit of a health mission at the moment anyway, after a PCOS diagnosis. I have cut dairy and refined sugars out of my life, in an effort to stabilise the symptoms of the condition. So I have been looking into ways that I can be healthier.
I tend to cook from scratch anyway, I just want to focus on easier ways to be healthy, if that makes sense. I like to drink green juices and smoothies and have found some healthy frozen smoothie packs. They are full of superfoods instead of just fruit. I don’t like to have ones that are only fruit, as they contain more sugars. It is natural sugar but it still effects my blood sugar. A PCOS no-no.
These packs have made things much easier for me. You just throw them into your Food blenders and then just add water, nut milk or something like coconut water or fresh fruit juice. I have a Magimix blender that I love, but I thought I’d share a few other great options, if you’re looking to be a little healthier this summer. Suitable for a variety of budgets too.
1.Kenwood Smoothie to Go Sport – £29.99
This is attainable on most budgets so is a go-to option. I like that you can take the blender cup with you, so you can literally just grab and go. Perfect for buy parents on the school run or just when you’re heading off to work. When it is as easy as this to grab a healthy breakfast it makes things so much easier.
2.Kenwood Smoothie to Go Blender – £39.99
This is an upgraded version form the first option but the principle is the same. You can blend and go. There are more cups available so you can blend smoothies as well as blend up nuts or seeds, using the smaller cup.
3.KitchenAid Diamond Blender – £149.00
Basically, the colour of this one is a dream. I love the KitchenAid brand and think their products are such good quality. It would look amazing in my any kitchen, right? 😉
4.Ninja Ultima BL810UK – £223.99
This one is the deluxe option but is very versatile. So if you are thinking about changing your lifestyle and how you eat, it is a great option. It is a super strong blender so can make up soups just from the raw ingredients. It heats it as it blends too. As it is a strong blender, you can use it as a food processor to blend nuts into your own nut butter and make nut milks too. I would love one one day! It is a big up front investment but you’d save when you make more of your own foods from scratch.
Have you got a favourite blender or any healthy eating tips?

Totally agree about the warmer weather, I never want a big stodgy meal.
Drooling a little at the Kitchen Aid one… But the budget Kenwood one looks really good value too x

I need to try and get more smoothies into my life, and the kids too really! Tho I’d not use it that often the blender that makes soups and heats as it goes sounds amazing!

I grow lots of blackcurrants, redcurrants and raspberries and so some form of liquidising them would be very useful – I do freeze a lot and make jam and wine – we live very healthily.
I’m just about to start a healthy boost too, after having my little boy. We’ve just come across the new bags in, my favourite is the beetroot, carrot, berries (and other bits that I’ve forgotten) haha xx Enjoy and good luck with it all x
This reminds me I need a new blender as my current one leaks! Are you happy with your Magimix blender and would you recommend it?

I definitely need to invest in a blender or a juicer (or both)! I do love smoothies and it’s a fab way of getting me to consume my 5 a day. Great picks.
I always have the same banana and strawberry smoothie, I have a Kenwood machine but its so big and bulky.
It is so much easier to be healthy in the summer. I don’t crave as much stodge or as many carbohydrates. I love eating fruit and fresh vegetables. And I guess that smoothies and juices are a fabulous way of doing this. There are some great choices of blenders etc here. Hugs Lucy xxxx
Smoothie packs sound great – are they expensive?
We just have a really cheap blender that we bought from the supermarket but it suits our needs.
