It’s becoming increasingly important to look after our planet. What some people don’t realise is that there are so many ways in which we can do our bit to help, even in the way we look after our skin and shave! The little things we do every day can have an effect – just imagine how many disposable razors and household items we throw away each year that simply can’t be recycled.
To make sure we’re doing our bit, there are so many ways we can alter our day to day routines to be more eco-friendly. Let’s take a look at how we can alter our regular shaving routines to help reduce the amount of unnatural products we use as well as how to change our daily routines for the better.
Reduce and recycle wherever you can.
Recycling containers, pots and cans wherever possible will help to reduce waste, but there are things we can do to further reduce the amount of waste we produce. Disposable razors are usually made from plastic and the more we use, the more will end up in landfill. With every disposable razor being thrown away after 5-10 uses, that’s a lot of waste. There are ways we can combat this, which is the good news!
Instead of opting for a disposable women’s or beard razor, invest in a quality razor that you can use for years into the future, simply swapping the blades when you need to.
Embrace the hair!
The thing is, you don’t have to shave every day. Nothing is stopping you from waiting as long as you want until you have to shave again. Many people feel the pressure to shave daily, when in actual fact, you can wait as long as you need to in between shaves. For men, try growing out your beard a little and creating a new look – you’ll be producing less waste over time, which is great for the environment.
Use a natural shaving cream.
Your standard shaving cream can include unnatural ingredients which can harm the environment and may even cause skin irritation to those with sensitive skin. The way these unnatural products are manufactured may also pollute the environment. You should always aim to choose a shaving cream or soap that is filled with good and all natural ingredients, or even have a go at making some of your own. There are plenty of simple shaving cream recipes online to try yourself, which you can tailor to your own individual skin type.
Soothe with a moisturiser.
Again, the way you care for your skin after shaving is something you should pay particular attention to. Instead of opting for the most popular brand around, look for some vegan or natural moisturisers to use on your skin. Not only will a natural moisturiser be kinder to your skin, but it will also help the environment by reducing pollution when creating those unnatural ingredients.

Being eco-friendly is important if we are to protect the environment and everything that’s in it. The best thing about it is that everyone can do their bit and work together to reduce the amount of waste we produce whilst also choosing products that are natural and chemical free. There are so many different ways in which we can help which span far and wide beyond our skin care and shaving routines.
