Festive Makeup Routine & Charlotte Tilbury Favourites

This time of year is one of my favourites. But in these last few weeks leading up to Christmas, there is so much going on that I barely get time to get ready and do my makeup. From gift shopping, wrapping gifts, getting things for the kid’s school parties, baking, cooking, cleaning, working, and a partridge in a pear tree, I must not be the only one that has their hands full. But once things start to calm down, which they should do next week, I don’t want a cosmetic crisis on my hands.

So here are some ideas for a festive look so you’re ready to celebrate in style.

Moisturiser

Apply moisturiser to your face and neck before the rest of your beauty routine to hydrate skin. Look for one that has an SPF in it an you’ve got two in one. One of my favourites at the moment is Charlotte’s Magic Cream Moisturiser, as it really lifts my complexion and leaves my skin feeling intensely moisturised.

Primer

Ensure your makeup goes on smoothly by using a primer before your other products. One of the best tips is to dab the primer onto your face, rather than rub it in. The Wonderglow Face Primer from Charlotte Tilbury is amazing and gives instant dewy and glowing skin.

CC Cream

I love a CC cream as it is lighter than foundation, but offers more coverage than a BB cream. A CC cream still gives enough coverage to even out your skin tone, though. Perfect for when the weather is cold and you get red, blotchy, or spotty skin.

Concealer

Children means concealer! Plus, at this time of year, I find it makes my skin look fresher, eyes look brighter, and dark circles lighter.

Bronzer / Blusher

If only I had a natural tan to rely on! So bronzer is my go-to. I pretty much wear it all year round, but especially in the winter. It just helps to give paler skin a pop. I rarely wear blusher but if you prefer a more rosey look than golden, then go for blusher instead.

Highlighter

I used to never wear highlighter until recently, but I am converted – it just completes the look and can be really flattering on the face, giving it an extra dimension.

Eyeshadow

For an everyday look, I rarely wear eyeshadow, except for some white in the corner of my eyes. But for Christmas day, a bit of sparkle is a must. I like a smokey eye look usually, but with a pop of colour, perhaps a jewel green.

Eyeliner

I am definitely an eyeliner girl! Thick and bold on my top lid is what it is all about. If I’m going for a smokey eye, then I will use black liner. For warmer toned eyeshadow, then a brown eyeliner can look much more flattering.

Brows

I have to dye my hair now, but my eyebrows are still as blond as when I was younger. So I have to fill them in so that they stand out more, otherwise it can look like I don’t have any! The struggle is real…

Mascara

One of my favourite mascaras is the Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara as it not only makes my lashes look bold (I love to wear lots of mascara – the whole blonde eyelash thing too), but it is also good for your lashes.

Lipstick & Liner

I don’t wear lipliner all the time, but for more glam occasions I love to wear it to refine what my lips look like. At the moment I am using Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk as it is pretty subtle shade, which I love. The lipstick I am using is the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Penelope Pink, because, you know, it is Christmas. A red is also a go-to look at this time of year. I have found the lipstick to not dry out my lips, which is something that I struggle with, and you can layer it up for a more bold look if you want.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without smelling good too. I rarely splash out on perfume, but I have fallen in love with Scent of a Dream from Charlotte’s range. It kind of changes scent the longer that you wear it, but it has citrus hints to start off with. Then it gets more perfumed with the jasmine and frankincense. It is really lovely and I’d recommend it – I like that it isn’t too floral and is recognisable as being the scent that it is. Plus, can we talk about the bottle? Dreamy.
