Getting Fit with Your Family

What better way to get fit than with your family? Getting fit as a family is a brilliant way to bond. There are absolutely no downsides to staying active, and you’ll feel so much better when you all get moving. The benefits of getting fit and healthy go without saying: you live longer, fight off disease, look and feel better. So what are you waiting for? Use these tips to get fit with your family:

Walk Your Dog Together (if you have one)!

If you have a dog, then walk it together as a family. I don’t recommend getting a dog purely for walking – you need to make sure your family is ready for such a big change. You’re letting another life into your home and family, so you all need to be in on the idea. You’ll all need to chip in when it comes to grooming, feeding, and other stuff too. However, if you’ve taken the time to work out if you’re ready, walking the dog together can be a great idea.

Go Hiking

Hiking is a brilliant family activity. You get to explore your area, and even some places outside of your area as a family. Make sure you have appropriate clothing, apps and maps to keep you going. You don’t want to get lost, and you definitely don’t want to have to spend the majority of the time listening to the kids complain. Make sure you take snacks and drinks too!

Explore Bike Trails

There are bike trails all over the country for you to explore, but I’d start with the trails closest to you first. You’re all going to need reliable bikes suited to what you plan on doing, so make sure you do your research. Shinola bikes are a little like town bikes, so they’re good for casually exploring your town or city. If you want to go off road, you’ll need BMX style bikes.

Do Fun Runs

Fun runs as a family will be lots of fun, and you have the opportunity to raise money for a charity as a family. There are lots of different kinds, from obstacle courses to colour runs. You could do a couple every year and train to prepare for them! I’m doing a colour run in a few weeks and have had fun pushing the pushchair with the  children in to prepare.

Swim

Swimming is lots of fun and helps to teach your kids valuable skills that will help them later on in life. Go swimming often to learn different strokes and floats. You’ll all get fit and healthy as a result too!

Climb a Mountain

Climbing a mountain sounds scary, but lots of people do it every day. You’ll need to train to prepare for it, but you should be able to make most of them easily. There are harder mountains you could tackle, but you’ll need to really knuckle down on your training and it might not be a good idea to do them with very young kids.

I hope you’ve found something that has appealed to you here. It’s never too late to get fit and healthy together, so start now!
