Reminiscing & Making Plans | Holidays in Europe

We are lucky to be able to travel most years to Spain. My parents-in-law have a villa over on the Costa Blanca so it makes it an easy holiday with the kids, when you know the area. I would like to try a few other places in Europe though as there are so many countries I have never been to before. Getting in the same old rut of going to the same places is something that I want to avoid!

I have such great memories of travelling to Europe with my family when I was younger. Until I was seven, there were six of us, including my parents, then after that there was seven of us, so road trips and holidays were always lots of fun. For me anyway. Seeing from a parent’s point of view now, I think my parents deserve a medal!

We would go to France a lot and go camping. I can even now remember the fun holidays, we had, the games we played, the swimming pools, playing boules on the beach… Camping holidays like Yelloh! Village are the best. I hope to take my children when they are a bit older. I think from around age 5 – 6 is the best time for camping trips. You don’t need to take as much stuff for them for one thing 😉

I remember visiting Switzerland on a camping trip with my family too and going to a Swiss chocolate factory. Let’s just say it was amazing. Who knows what it was actually like. But to a young me, I remember walking into a room filled with chocolate, after we’d watched a video in French, and I can remember there being chocolate everywhere! We could help ourselves too. Who knows how accurate that memory is any more though!

I’d love to take my children to Portugal on a next trip. The husband has been with his family and he remembers going to some pretty awesome water parks. I know my two would love that. One of my brother-in-law’s girlfriend is from Portugal, so that may be quite a realistic holiday after all. She can show us all the sights!

There are a lot of family friendly places in Europe so they are ideal to go to. Lots to do, especially if you like the beach and swimming. What are your favourite trips to take with the family? Do you enjoy camping trips? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
