How To Get Your House Ready To Be Sold

It’s a monumental decision to sell your home. Maybe you’re upgrading to something bigger to house a growing family or are relocating for your dream job. Whatever your reasons, you will want to make sure the process is as smooth as possible.

Obviously, there are no guarantees but there are definitely a few things you can do to give yourself the best chance of selling your home quickly and for the best price. When you get round to buying a new place for yourself, you will want to compare conveyancing solicitors to make this process smooth too.

Remove the Clutter But Not the Personality

One of the first things you will want to do when you are selling your home is making sure everything is spic and span. Store away any items that make the place look cluttered so potential buyers can see the individual qualities of each room. That being said, you don’t want to go so far as to make the house seem like it has never been lived in. A touch of personality can go a long way to helping your buyers imagine what life might be like for them if they buy your house.

Give Your House A Lick of Paint

Try painting your rooms in nice neutral colours which will make them seem lighter and bigger. It also makes it easier for buyers to think about how they can adapt the rooms to suit their purposes. A freshly painted house with no dirty marks on the walls also gives off a good impression and allows buyers to start using the rooms as soon as they move in.

Finish Any DIY Jobs You Have Been Putting Off

Sort out anything around the house so buyers don’t see a list of DIY jobs they need to complete themselves, they see a home that they can move into straight away. Deal with any cracks, threadbare carpets and even light bulbs that haven’t been changed. Also think about waxing any hardwood floors and hanging up fresh towels in the bathroom. After you have sorted everything out inside, move on to your garden. Mow the lawn and cut back any bushes that are looking overgrown. Use a pressure washer on your patio and even bring in some potted plants to brighten up the place.

Make Sure Your House Smells As Good As It Looks!

Believe it or not, a bad smell is one of the number one reasons people are put off from buying a house! It’s important you do everything you can to deal with the source of the smell and not just cover it up. Open windows in all your rooms, wash out your bins, clear out the drains and anything else you can think of. Once this is dealt with, you can set about adding some nice smells to your home. People who are really dedicated will bake bread or cookies every time a new potential buyer comes round (which is a little extreme if you ask me)! So why not get some scented candles on the go instead?
