How to add Social Media Icons to your Blog

As you may or may not have noticed, I have some shiny new social media icons on the side bar of my blog. Here is a quick tutorial of how to add them on your wordpress blog. Hopefully it will then take you less time than it took me!

– Find on-line, or make, the social media icons you want to upload. I found mine HERE and chose the light pink ones – obviously only choose the ones that you have accounts for / are relevant to you

– Download the pictures to your computer and then upload them to your wordpress media library.

– On your dashboard, go to Appearance, then Widgets and make a text widget, placing it where you want them to appear (on the sidebar, footer, at the very top of the side bar etc)

– Add HTML that is similar to the following, into the text widget (remember, you may need more or less than this so remember to add or take away the right parts)

<div><a href=”[full link to your Twitter]”><img title=”Twitter” src=”[image URL for Twitter icon]” alt=”” width=”35″ height=”35″ /></a><a href=”[full link to your Pinterest]”><img title=”Pinterest” src=”[image URL for Pinterest icon]” alt=”” width=”35″ height=”35″ /></a> <a href=”[full link to your Facebook page]”><img title=”Facebook” src=”[image URL for Facebook icon]” alt=”” width=”35″ height=”35″ /></a> <a href=”mailto:[emailaddress]”><img title=”Email” src=”[image URL for Email icon]” alt=”” width=”35″ height=”35″ /></a><a href=”[full link to your RSS feed]”><img title=”RSS” src=”[image URL for RSS icon]” alt=”” width=”35″ height=”35″ /></a></div>

– Replace the brackets with your correct information, links and Image URL

– You can find your image URL in the media library, if you click ‘edit’ on the picture

– Make sure you add the ‘http://’ at the start of your web URLs
