How to Create a Family-Friendly Backyard for Year-Round Fun

If you have kids and are lucky enough to have an outdoor space, you know how much fun they have running around, creating adventures, and generally engaging in imaginative play. Make your yard or garden the best it can be by incorporating these easy tips to make it a place you will never want to leave.

Rethink Your Grass

Every garden and yard usually has grass. It comes in a wide variety of textures and colours, but one thing is certain amongst them all – it grows. That constant growth requires maintenance, of course. While you might enjoy everything that comes with lawncare, it might be nice to find an alternative that gives you more time with your family and less work.

This is where artificial lawn comes to the rescue. Use an artificial lawn as a soft, durable surface for kids to play on. If you have pets, teach them to eliminate in one area of your yard and hose the area off. This long-lasting surface mimics natural grass and looks beautiful every day. Look for a wide selection of artificial lawn products to find the right look and feel for you and your family.

Create Space for Adults and Kids

Sometimes, when you are in the midst of parenting, you realise that everything is focused on your kids. Of course, they require constant care and attention, but what about you? Assess your yard and garden to determine if there are areas where you can have some fun, too. Delineate spaces outside to create a fun zone for kids and a sitting area for the adults. Keep them in proximity to one another to make it conducive to easy adult supervision.

Bring the Indoor Amenities Outside

There is something special about dining in the fresh air and warm sunshine. Whether you bring your morning cup of tea outside to enjoy the quiet before the rest of your family wakes up or enjoy a lovely glass of wine with your special person long after the kids have gone to bed, sitting outside makes it even better.

The same sentiment applies to your family meals. Set up a patio area or deck with outdoor dining furniture. If you do not already have proper shade, consider adding a pergola, or a full covering, such as a shade sail, or a covered patio. A standing umbrella will do the trick, too.

Place an outdoor sofa and some comfortable chairs with a side table or two, and you have a lovely place to visit with your friends or work from home. The idea is to find furniture that is designed for outdoor use, but looks and feels like indoor furniture, to create a whole new space to live and play in.

You should not let your yard languish in unrealised promise. Bring it to light and enjoy the space you have by creating a fun and relaxing area that your whole family can enjoy (and save time for the things you love by no longer having to cut the grass).
