Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag Review

I have said before that children of bloggers are pretty lucky, and it was reiterated when we received a lovely package through the post from Mattel. The children have been playing with and testing out the award winning First Builders Big Building Bag by Mega Bloks. The kids are pretty use to knocks on the door and parcels arriving but they were extremely excited when I opened it and pulled out the Mega Bloks bag. They were trying to grab it off me and wanted to play with it straight away – always a good sign.

The blocks are brightly primary coloured aimed to encourage hands on exploration and open ended play. Max’s favourite thing was to construct tall towers and then we have but several castles since. The First Builders blocks are made big, especially for little hands to handle. Chloe, at 19 months, was able to play with them just as well as her big brother (nearly 4). He was obviously able to tell a bit of a story with his tower blocks and castles but Chloe was still able to play at her level with them and was good at stacking the blocks. The colours are really striking and I think that is a big plus and makes it a lot more appealing to little ones. I liked that there are different sized blocks too – Max was able to match up and look for the pieces that he ‘needed’ so a good thing to learn about size and shape with the slightly older children.

When we were finished playing we were able to just conveniently pack and store the blocks in the zip top bag, that is ecofriendly and PVC free – always a plus with the children around. We like to make a game of tidying away and they both get pretty competitive at how fast they can put all the blocks away (best way to tidy up in my opinion)!

The blocks are aimed at children aged 1 – 5 so my two are the perfect target audience, and I can see why. They loved playing with them and Max told me ‘these are so cool mummy’. It is something that I enjoy playing along with them too – I must admit to being a bit of a castle building snob haha 😉

The RRP is £14.99 and I think for the 60 piece bag it is totally worth it. They are durable, will stand the test of time and can be stored away easily and brought back out with future little ones etc – I think they would make a great gift too. They are available from several places including Tesco, Argos, Amazon & Toys R Us.

Have your children ever tried mega blocks?
