So Benedict Cumberbatch recently got engaged.
*audible sighs from women around the world*
I don’t want to get all fan-girl on you, but yes, I’m a pretty big fan of his. Not only a fan of his acting skills but he just seems so charming and down to earth and let’s not forget, posh. I love a posh voice hah. Seriously.
The engagement wasn’t a surprise, as lets face it, he was pretty much one of the most eligible bachelors on earth and I’m sure he would have had his pick of women. I was (stupidly) a little bit surprised at his choice of bride though. I thought surely, he’d want to marry some supermodel, just because he could.
Whilst his fiancée Sophie Hunter is stunning, I don’t know and I don’t want this to be taken the wrong way, I just didn’t imagine that is what she would look like.
Cumberbatch was once reported to have said:
“A woman who knows that she doesn’t have to get all decked out to look good is sexy. A woman who can make you feel smart with her conversation skills is also sexy. I believe the sense of humor is important”.
How refreshing to find an extremely popular actor look for intellect and humour in his other half, and not supermodel looks, just ‘because he can’.
Hunter, a Samuel Becket Award winner, is Oxford Educated and had a very successful career thus far, as well as being fluent in French and an accomplished pianist. Is there anything else she can’t do? What a woman!
Why of course this would be the type of person Cumberbatch would go for. This is the kind of guy that studies lizards and reptiles for his role as Smaug in the Hobbit. What was I thinking?! Add all of this to the fact that their engagement was announced by an old-skool ad in ‘The Times’, to me, makes him all the more attractive!
So I guess this an open letter to his legion of young female fans. I don’t want this to sound patronising but if you want a guy like Benedict Cumberbatch, then you need to be a woman like Sophie Hunter. Educate yourselves, develop lots of skills and talents, work hard and don’t take yourself too seriously.
Be an interesting person to talk to, not just to look at.
