I am on a weight loss mission and am trying to ‘eat clean’. It is a journey of discovery for me but I have come across a few things over the past few weeks that I think are essential to have in at home. If I have got things in the house that I can cook with or make snacks with, then I’m onto a winner.
~ Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil is so versatile you need it in your life haha. You can cook with it as an oil, you can bake with it, eat it straight with a spoon and even use it on dry skin and lips. I use it the most when frying or roasting and I use it with baking too. Hubby likes to eat a teaspoon of it everyday, mixed with honey for a healthy boost.
~ Almonds
So almonds won’t exactly be great if you have an allergy, but if you don’t they are a must! Again, the versatility is what makes it a must in your cupboard. I like to just have then chopped and sprinkled on my porridge or overnight oats or eat by themselves as a snack.
One thing I have been doing with them is making my own almond milk and almond butter. I was noticing in the shop bought almond milk that the almond content wasn’t actually very high, so I decided to make my own. I try to buy almonds in bulk and then spend an afternoon making and freezing batches of almond milk. The leftovers then works, once dried out, as ground almonds which I use in baking.
I have only attempted it once, but you can also make your own almond butter. You know exactly what has gone in to it – and you’ll save money on the cost of store bought!
~ Oats
Gluten-free or not, I love oats and think they are a great and low-fat way to eat. I have then for breakfast basically everyday and they are also really great for making snack bars. I find that they really fill me up which is the main thing I love about them!
~ Frozen Berries
Whilst having fresh berries is great, frozen ones cost less and they obviously have a much longer shelf life. I love to throw them in smoothies to add flavour, as well as the icy chill. You can also use a blender to make an ‘ice-cream’ with them and some fat-free greek yoghurt – delicious.
Are there certain things that you just have to have in the house? Let me know in the comments!

Good for you and all your efforts in eating clean. I really wish I could turn my eating habits around they are shocking to say the least. I just have no will power when ice cream and pizza come into the mix. Naughty and shameful I know. Good for you for how well you are doing. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me. #sharewithme
I try to eat health and ever since I turned veggie I discovered lots of new foods, which are now my staples. I am definitely a convert to home made nut butters, but I am yet to try making my own almond milk.
I have heard so much about the coconut oil, I do need to finally give it a go!

I would like to eat health, but I heat taste of this food 🙁
I eat all of these things every day, and I also pop a tablespoon of chia seeds into my smoothie every morning too. Oh and I use ground almonds to make raw food bars too. Delicious! x
Some of my clean eating faves too – I have GOT to give the almond milk and butter a try though! thanks for the tips 🙂
