Netflix Picks

netflix
my life!
I am a little obsessed with Netflix, I am not going to lie. It can be so dangerous too though – I just have to watch more and more of each series after I start. Unfortunately all nighters with children are not the same as they were in my uni days! There are lots of films I have watched on there but I’m going to share some of my favourite series – some aren’t that new, some are. I must add though, I don’t watch 18’s so sorry, you’ll never see House of Cards or OITNB on my list (or Breaking Bad actually. I watched like 4 episodes with my husband as he told me just ‘how good’ it is – I wasn’t convinced. I think I am the only person in history that has thought that though)?

If You Love a Bit of Fairy Tales & True Love…

…then Once Upon a Time is for you! It is a really feel-good, happy series, with fairly tale characters galore. All about good and evil and true love. I like how they have slightly twisted each of the classic fairy tales. Really cute. There is nothing particularly dodgy in this either – I’m sure it must be a PG, so all the good, happy feels. Plus, a handsome prince and good looking Captain Hook, you can’t go wrong 😉

If You Love a Murder Mystery turned Soap Opera…

…then Pretty Little Liars is for you! I am sure a 28 year old mother of two is not the target audience (though it has been running for 6 years so if I had started watching at 22 that would be totally acceptable haha), however, I love it. This one is probably the series I have found the most addictive too. There are all sorts of twists and turns in the lives of these 4 girls, all while trying to find out what has happened to their friend that has gone missing, all whilst being tormented by the mysterious ‘A’. Their teenage lives are really relateable and you will feel all sorts of emotions watching it.

If You Love a Bit of Heroes & Villains…

…then Gotham is for you! It is set, as you can imagine, in Gotham, but it is before Batman was Batman. Bruce Wayne is a 12 year old and it starts just as his parents were murdered. The other characters are slowly introduced and it is so interesting to see how they develop. My favourite character is Edward Nygma who is just the cutest dork ever and seems so sweet. He becomes the Riddler, but even now on series 2, that is still taking shape – such an interesting dynamic.

If You Love Hot Lawyers…

…the Suits is for you! Having watched both Suits and the Good Wife, that have a fairly similar context, I much prefer Suits (don’t get me wrong, the Good Wife is good and worth watching, Suits is just, better). It is intersting to see how these two really different characters, Mike and Harvey, get along and live their lives. All with the fact that Mike Ross isn’t qualified to practice law and some lovin’ thrown in – it is a really awesome watch.

If you’ve got a silly sense of humour…

…then Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is for you! It is a Netflix original, written by Tina Fey, so as you can imagine it is quite silly and fun. It is definite ‘leave your brain at home’ viewing but I have laughed out loud at every episode I’ve watched. Each episode is only 25 minutes long too so it is perfect to fit in a few episodes here and there.

What are some of your favourites that you’d add to the list? I’m always after new recommendations!

  • We love Gotham! I especially like Fish, selena & Oswald. I think those are absolutely brilliant characters! But what steals the show for me is the portrail of Alfred, now that is amazing!

Another one of our favorites is DareDevil. That series is so awesome it is untrue. I’m hoping that Jessica Jones will be excellent too.

For our little boys there are all sorts of great things on Netflix, has to be administered in carefully controlled dosages, but they love “Larva” and “Oscars Oasis” and “Suckers” but also like watching Toy Story 1, 2 and 3.

  • I’m addicted to Pretty Little Liars and Suits. The Originals and Orange is the New Black are my other go to’s! I’ve not really tried the other 3 here, but I love finding new shows, I’m going to try and episode of each this week. xx #KCACOLS

  • Pheeew I’m so glad it’s not just the hubs and I who think Breaking Bad is utter crap! I totally agree with your lists as we are fans of Once Upon a Time *yip Hook sure does it for me, sssh!* and as for Pretty Little Liars it really is addictive. Having ever only caught a few out of order episodes of The Good Wife I can’t really comment. I do however love to watch The Originals and Vampire Diaries I find I can really sink my teeth into those lol.xx #KCACOLS

  • Ohh I have not seen Gotham but sounds like something I’d like. Me and the husband love Bates Motel and watching all the old Louis Theroux documentaries. My little boy loves watching dinosaur train and all the Disney pixar films. Netflix is so worth the money in my opinion. Great list xx #KCACOLS

  • Thanks for the inspiration! We’ve just finished Dexter and loved it so we have a bit of a void to fill now. I like the sound of pretty little liars but not sure I’ll be able to convince the other half! #KCACOLS

  • I was really into PLL for a while, and then I missed a few episodes and completely lost what was happening!
A friend recommended the Good Wife to me while I’m on maternity leave, and I’ve been enjoying that. It’s pretty easy viewing. Maybe I’ll have to try Suits.
I recently watched a series called Star-Crossed, which I quite liked but they only did one series of it so that was disappointing.
When in doubt I revert to the classics: The West Wing, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice (Grey’s spin-off), Scandal, House. How to Get Away with Murder is a new show which is worth a look.
Oh, and the Hubs and I really enjoy The Blacklist, Hawaii Five-O, Elementary…and Prison Break and Heroes when they were on.
Phew! Seems we’re a little obsessed too, lol! 😀

  • Ah, Netflix, I don’t tend to watch much anymore I still love terrestrial TV and what with blogging and 3 kids it doesn’t get much of a look in anymore except for some Peppa pig marathons! Homeland is good if you haven’t seen it. Thanks for linking up to #KCACOLS

  • I’ve not seen any of the others, but I love Suits! It’s I’m completely caught up on tv so there’s a bit of a void at the moment!
I’ll have to check the others out 🙂
