As anyone who knows me knows, I am always on the look out for healthy snacks, especially snacks that work my children can enjoy too. One of my favourite things, as it is usually easier to grab and go than fruit that needs to be chopped up to eat, is dried fruit. The only issue with that is that, unless you’re drying out the fruit yourself, a lot of brands add sugar when they dry the fruit out.
So introducing, Nothing But snacks. They aren’t dried, but they are freeze dried fruit and vegetables, all ready to eat, with, as the name suggest, nothing added. No added sugar, salt, colour or preservatives. The fruit and veg is chopped and simply has the water taken out of it. They are gluten free and under 80 calories per pack – just a little but perfect really!
There are 6 flavours to choose from – 3 fruit flavours and 3 vegetable flavours. They are:
- Apple & Fig
- Pineapple & Grape
- Strawberry & Banana
- Pea & Sweetcorn
- Beetroot & Parsnip
- Mange Tout & Red Pepper
The kids and I LOVED all of the fruit flavoured packs. It is fairly understandable why as fruit is naturally sweeter, so the grapes for example, have a really nice tang to them. The vegetable bags did divide opinion however. My favourite was the beetroot and parsnip and I found the pea and sweetcorn bag surprisingly lovely! They have a nice crunch to them so they are the type of thing I could imagine picking at whilst blogging or watching a film, for example. I did think though, that the mange tout and red pepper one was pretty gross. The hubs liked that one though so it really just depends what flavours you are into. The kids generally preferred the fruit bags but they didn’t mind the beetroot and parsnip ones and Chloe liked the pea and sweetcorn ones too. It was interesting seeing the kids’ reaction to the snacks at first, as they haven’t had anything freeze dried before but it was really positive.
The Verdict
I found that they were surprisingly filling, particularly the veg bags. Would I get them again? Yes, I would. I really liked them. The family did too and they’d work well in lunch boxes. Sold.
Have you heard of these before? What do you think to them? They are available from lots of places, including Holland & Barrett, Wholefoods and other health food stores.
