British Picnic in the Park

One of the things I love most about springtime and the warmer weather we get, is picnics with my little people. Just the other day we headed into the garden for a picnic lunch, once Max was back from nursery. I have vivid  and happy memories of doing this kind of thing growing up, having a ploughman’s lunch, so I hope I can create those kinds of memories for my kids too.

I love a good picnic and having everything all set out. The bonus of it being in the garden though is that we can pop in and out and grab a few things. This is a rather delayed post as when it was near St. George’s day I thought it would be cute to have some ‘British’ things on the menu. I think St. Patrick’s Day gets a lot of hype but being English, I thought St. George’s Day probably should too.

I am obsessed with pickles so I had Branston Pickle on rye bread with rocket. Might sound like vom to some but that is totally my kind of thing. The kids had Ribena Blackcurrant (they’re normally not treated to such squash so it was a big hit). After their sandwiches and some fruit they had some yummy treats of McVities Mini Cheddars and another new thing for them – Crawfords Custard Creams. All big hits!

It was lovely to just spend time with them, enjoying good food and the sunshine. I love seeing the kids play together. It isn’t always calm or relaxing (I’m sure siblings are the best things we get in life for learning to share and be gentle). They have good days and they act like they’re like the best of friend and I think I’ve cracked it. Other days, complete opposite. Kids ey?!

What is one of your favourite things to do as a family?
