There is no getting away from the fact that a good vacuum cleaner can make all of the difference in a busy household. Not only that, but we have a mixture of floors, from wooden to tiled and carpet, so it needs to be a vacuum cleaner that can meet all of those needs and work efficiently on the variety of floors that we have. I have been getting more and more frustrated with our current vacuum as it seems to ‘spit’ back out things like crumbs, so the timing to review the Hoover Upright 300 Vacuum was just right.

Hoover Upright 300 Vacuum
The first impressions of the vacuum were really positive. It came in a relatively slim-line box, and when I got all of the items out and ready, I was impressed with how light the vacuum was, as well as how easy it was to assemble. In fact, you hardly had to do anything to get it ready for action. I also really liked the stylish red colour, although the other Hoover Upright Collection vacuum cleaners all look good too. The HU300 looks really smart and happens to fit in well with some of our home decor.
I haven’t had a corded vacuum for a number of years now, and last time I did, it was one that you pull along, so it was quite clunky and chunky. You can tell that the technology and designs has come a long way in recent years, as the HU300 vacuum was honestly so light to hold and to manoeuvre.

Hoover claims that it is one of their lightest vacuums to date, as well as the most steerable, and I found that to be completely true. Weighing less than 5kg, less than my three-month old baby currently weighs, it really is easy to use and to lift and carry up the stairs and around the house. It was easy to move around the house and steer around objects, much more so than even our current cordless that doesn’t have such a flexible head and steering angle. In fact, the Upright 300 Vacuum Cleaner has an 80 degree steering angle, which makes it a dream to get into those hard to reach areas.

What do you get in the Box?
- 1 x Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
- 1 x Crevice Tool to get into tight corners and close to skirting boards
- 1 x Dusting Brush for cleaning anything dusty like window sills or headboards
- 1 x Instruction Manual
- 1 x Wiper to clean out the brush roll when hairs get tangled up

Anti-Allergy Vacuum Cleaner
One of the big selling points about this upright vacuum cleaner is that it is a great solution for allergy sufferers. It comes with a filter, as you’d expect, but the H13 HEPA filter is completely washable, and not only that, but it works very efficiently to trap allergens. This helps to keep the air in the home as pure as possible. I for one know that I can get very ‘sniffy’ and sneeze a lot when I am cleaning and there is a lot of dust. I haven’t experienced any of this when using the vacuum, or when cleaning the filter and emptying the cylinder which is great.
Another selling point that makes it ideal for allergy sufferers, and shows just how good it cleans, is that it has Advanced Multi-Cyclonic Technology. It might sound fancy, but this just means that it improves the dust separation in the cylinder, helping the fiters to stay clean for longer, as it pushes away the dust from the filter.

Efficient Cleaning
I have been impressed with how well it cleans, especially on the variety of floors that we have in the home. With the slider, you can set it to carpet or hard floors, so that it can work optimally on each surface, and there is no loss of suction. Another feature is that you can turn the brush bar off and on, depending on what surface you are on. For cleaning carpet, for example, it is great to get up all of the bits that can be there, like hair and dust. The vacuum cleaner is also very quiet, especially compared to other vacuum cleaners that I have used in the past. The extra tools work well too, so that you can clean every inch of the home in an anti-allergy and effective way.
My only hesitation of using a vacuum with a cord is that it can be annoying to have to unplug it and move it from room to room. The cord is over 8m in length, and I could plug it in the kitchen, in the middle of our home, and clean the whole of the downstairs of our three-bed home, without having to unplug it. Such a bonus! The same goes for the upstairs, meaning that I don’t have to unplug it for each room as the cord really does go far.

Emptying the cylinder bin is so easy too, you just press a single button and you can empty it into the bin. Then it is easily clipped back on to carry on cleaning. I really have been impressed at the ease of using this upright HU300 vacuum cleaner; Hoover has really done well with it.
Would I recommend it?
The Hoover Upright 300 really is a great vacuum cleaner. I love how light and easy to manoeuvre, especially when needing to carry up stairs. It really does clean well, both hard floors and carpet, getting everything up from food crumbs, to dust, and hair. I think that it is an affordable option for an effective upright vacuum cleaner, especially one that has the technology to help purify the air in the home, ideal for anyone with allergies. I would definitely recommend this model, and will be retiring my current cordless vacuum cleaner post-haste!
It would be great to hear what you think!
