Cosy Spa B&B Review: Sage Cottage in Staplehurst, Kent

When you have got young children and are busy with work and family, there isn’t much time for nights away as a couple. Even a date night out of the house can be a rare thing, but to have time for just the two of us (without the early morning wake up call), can be such a lovely thing. And it is made all the more lovely when you get to enjoy the time away in a cosy bed and breakfast.

We were recently invited to try out the B&B at the Lavender & Sage therapy room in Staplehurst, Kent. When not being used as a B&B the cottage is used for massage treatments. Set on private ground, the space is the ultimate in relaxation, and you can pick and choose what you want to do from having a couple’s massage, to hot tub time, and extras like marshmallows out by the fire pit. The owner, Alison, wanted to have the B&B be a real relaxing experience, rather than just a place to sleep, and it definitely was just that.

The attention to detail was second to none, and the cottage itself was really beautiful in a modern Scandi style.

The cottage is set on the grounds of a private home, and it is so well designed. There is a double bed, as well as a small extra sleeping area in the loft space. There is no cooker, but the kitchen is very well stocked and equipped to cater for yourself and enjoy the continental breakfast (we did eat out at the local Indian restaurant in the evening as well). There is an ensuite shower room with robes and slippers, and the whole decor of the place is really lovely; I’d be very happy if my home looked like that!

Outside, there is a pool that an be used in the summer months, as well as a hot tub, fire pit area, decking and outdoor seating, and the amazing treehouse area overlooking acres of land (that area doesn’t get called the Garden of England for no reason). It really is a great place for an escape and to get away from it all and back to nature.

We were staying over the bonfire night weekend, and even managed to see a few fireworks sat up in the treehouse; really magical.

As has been said, the attention to details is second to none. There were little chocolates left in the cottage, as well as up at the treehouse for us. The solar powered candles and outdoor lighting are lit in just the right way, and there was even a bag for the owner to take our swimwear after being in the hot tub to rinse it for us, as there obviously isn’t a washing machine. The little things like that really made all of the difference and made you feel really looked after and pampered, which was lovely for me, as I’m the one normally doing the pampering for others.

When it came to going out to use the fire pit there was a hamper full of goodies to use and extra little things like hats and gloves; she really thought of everything. It was a nice touch too, so that you don’t have to worry about packing lots of things, and so that you can enjoy things like that all year round.

You can just use the cottage as a bed and breakfast, a place to sleep and then enjoy the breakfast (as well as the treehouse). But I really liked that there are add-on packages so you can pick and choose what will work for you. The add-on packages are:

  • Cream tea in the cottage & hot toddies in the tree house
  • Hot Tub Session
  • Hot Stone Back Massage
  • Use of the fire pit with marshmallows & crumpets

The choice is great so you can make it personal to you. If you want to really relax and feel pampered then you can, or you can simply use it as a chance to be out in the countryside away from it all. I would recommend it all though, it was really lovely, and fun to be out just the two of us toasting marshmallows and hanging out in the treehouse.

The cost of just the night is £80, with the add-ons starting from £10. For what you get, I think it is good value for money, and the whole experience is personalised from what milk we wanted for breakfast to choosing what time we wanted to head out to the hot tub. I was made to feel really relaxed and the setting was just fantastic. It happens to be quite close to where my in-laws live, so I know both my husband and I would love to visit (child-free) again.

For a relaxing and pampering weekend or night away, then I couldn’t recommend this enough.
