Lockdown has helped me to cook more, and to make sure that we eat more nutritious food, particularly for breakfast. When school and work is in full swing, we normally just grab something that is quick and easy, rather than something that is going to be nutritious and healthy for us.
One thing that we do all love, and that is fairly quick and easy to make, is a smoothie. But when you’ve got more time on your hands, making a smoothie bowl means that you get the delicious (and healthy elements), as well as being able to top it with extras like granola, to fill you up for the day. I love how flexible a smoothie bowl is, as you can literally throw in more and more things, depending on your tastes, as well as dietary requirements.
I was sent some Haskapa powder recently to try out, and I thought it would work well for a smoothie bowl. The Haskapa powder is made from the Haskap berry, which have been freeze-dried to make the powder. You don’t need much of it either, so the 100g much will last for a while.

What are haskap berries?
Haskap berries come from northern boreal forests in Asia and Europe, as well as North America. They are berries that are high in anthocyanin, which help to give the berries their deep purple colour. This is also what helps to give the berry such a great range of health benefits. Haskap berries contain up to four times more anthocyanin than blueberries, and believe it not, up to three times more antioxidants than blueberries.
So they really are a superfood! A great addition for any smoothie bowl, but can be added in to drinks, porridge, pancakes, yogurt, and so on.
The Haskapa powder is on sale at the moment for £16 for 100g, normally £19.99, so get it while you can! There are also 3 for 2 offers available.
Now, onto the recipe. I would love to hear if you give this a try, so do let me know! The Haskapa powder is so tasty and a really great addition to your food and drinks. Suitable for all of the family too – my children have really loved it.

Super Berry Smoothie Bowl
Makes enough for one large cereal bowl – serves up to 2 people

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of milk (I used oat milk but any milk will work
- 1 handful of frozen berries – these aren’t a necessity, but can help to bulk the bowl out
- 1 banana, chopped
- 3 tbsp oats
- 2 tsp Haskapa Powder
- 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
Method:
- Gather all of your ingredients, and put into a blender, starting with the oak milk first. Blend together until completely smooth.
- Serve in a bowl with toppings of your choice. You could add a dollop of almond butter, add chia seeds, other berries, nuts, seeds, and granola. Make it your own!
