Life seems to be getting busier every day, with so much to do and not that much time to do it in! It can mean that good quality family time is squeezed out, and we hardly ever get to spend time with one another, even if we desperately want to. It’s essential that we manage to carve out some time together, however. To help you spend more time with those closest to you, here are some great ways to do it, for even the busiest of people.
If you can keep one night a week sacred and call it your family night, you can always guarantee that you will be able to spend at least a few quality hours with your entire family. Nothing should get in the way of family night, no matter what – apart from true emergencies, of course! You can do anything that fits your mood on this night, such as heading out for a meal, going to the cinema, staying indoors and playing board games, or going for a walk. You will know what works best for you, and you can arrange it in advance so that everyone knows what they are doing. Done right, family night is something that everyone will look forward to every week.
As an extension of family night, you can also book a family holiday. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or even leave the country. In fact, you can stay at home if you prefer. The point is that you will have booked time off work, and the children won’t be at school. Use these days to spend time together and truly bond. Explore the area you are holidaying in (even if it is your own town there will be places you’ve never seen before), for example, or do things you’ve never done before and make some wonderful memories.
How much time do you spend shopping per week? For food, for clothes, for other essentials? If you add it all up, you might be surprised at how many hours you are shopping for, and how many hours you could have spent with your family instead. Although buying these things is important, of course, there are quicker ways to do it: buy them online instead. You can order your supermarket shopping to be delivered; you can buy clothes and shoes, you can even buy designer glasses online. Whatever you and your family need, you can order it directly through your computer or tablet, freeing up more time to spend with your family.
Exercising as a family is another way to spend time together, as the benefit of this is that it also keeps you fit and healthy. You can teach your children how to look after themselves and why exercise is so important while being with them and doing your own exercising which you would have done anyway. Why not take up a sport that you all can play such as tennis or badminton? Perhaps you could go swimming together once a week (as part of the family night). Whatever you do, it is important that you enjoy it, or you won’t want to keep doing it.
