Did you know that the biggest organ of your body is your skin? Your body’s organs each do an important specific job. Skin isn’t just your body’s largest organ, it also takes care of a lot of different jobs for you! Your skin covers and protects you, keeps your body at the proper temperature, produces vitamin D to make your bones strong, makes the molecule melanin that colours and protects your skin from harmful sun rays, prevents dangerous germs from entering your body, keeps fluids inside you to prevent dehydration, repairs wounds, and gives you a sense of touch! That’s a lot of work for even the biggest organ! In return for all of that, it’s your duty to keep your skin healthy! Here are some tips on how to maintain happy, healthy skin!
Skin Care Products – By applying the right skincare products, especially those that are medically formulated like Aspect DR skin care, you are giving your skin an extra level of protection that will help keep it smooth and moisturised. It’s important to choose products that are formulated for your specific skin type:
• Normal skin – Clear and not very sensitive
• Sensitive skin – Might burn or sting after product use
• Dry skin – Itchy, rough, or flaky
• Oily skin – Greasy and shiny
• Combination skin – Oily in some places and dry in others
Sun Protection – The sun can be extremely harmful to the skin if it is overexposed to it. Too much sun can cause age spots, wrinkles, and eventually skin cancer if left unprotected! This can even happen in winter!
Here are some ways to stop the sun from damaging your skin:
• Sunscreen – Generously apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, then reapply every two hours or more, especially if you have been swimming or are perspiring.
• Stay In the Shade – Avoid being out in the sun between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM when the rays are at their most powerful. If you must venture out, try to stay in the shade whenever possible.
• Protective Clothing – Keep your skin covered with long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Be sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat. There are even some laundry additives that give clothing an added layer of ultraviolet protection, and clothing that is specifically designed to be sun-protective by blocking ultraviolet rays.
Be Gentle – Even just daily tasks like washing can cause damage to your skin. Here are some ways to be gentle to your skin to help it stay healthy:
• Don’t Use Strong Soaps – Very strong soaps might sound good, but they can contain harsh ingredients that don’t just clean up dirt, they can strip away healthy oil from your skin, too. It’s best to choose mild, skin-healthy soaps and cleansers.
• Limit Your Bathing Time – Taking long hot showers and baths can also remove healthy oils from your skin. Limit your shower or bath time, and use warm instead of hot water.
Your skin is there to protect you, help it do its job by protecting it!
