Over the cold weather and already planning your summer holiday? I know I certainly am! Thinking about sitting on a lounger, mocktail in hand? You may still have a couple more months of woolly hats, Lemsip and thermals yet, but believe it or not, now’s the time to get a head start on your new-season wardrobe. Not only will it get you through the remaining rain-soaked, wind-swept days, but you’ll also be wearing the latest SS16 trends before anyone else. Sure, some are really wearable, and others not so much (fur nails, anyone?). So, here’s a breakdown of the five key pieces that you can a.) easily wear alongside your capsule wardrobe and b.). start wearing as soon possible. Because winter dressing is only fun for so long, right?
The New Denim Jacket
Maybe it’s the arrival of the Chinese New Year, or just a love for the culture, but designers are going crazy for East Asian influences this season. Enter the denim kimono jacket. An alternative to the buttoned style you’re used to wearing, the wrap silhouette is super flattering on any figure. Plus, when is it ever possible to go wrong with classic blue denim?
The Prairie Top
Fashion’s love affair with the bare neck is going nowhere, which means off-the-shoulder tops are everywhere right now. Forget Heidi-style braids, this is how to work the season’s prairie-peasant vibe. Why not gain extra points and go for a ruffled style too? It can also be worn on cooler days when the weather can’t decide what to do – just layer it over a high-neck top.
The Minimalist Sneakers
Move over Stan Smiths – there’s a new sneaker in town. An easy way to work the 90s trend, minimalist sneakers are your new footwear of choice. Think monochrome styles with little to no branding. But don’t worry, they may be simple but they’re far from boring. An all-white pair will give a shirt dress a statement finish (especially if they’re box fresh).
The Tote Alternative
Your tote bag’s a classic yes, but sometimes it’s not the most practical choice. With the likes of Alexander Wang reinventing the shape and Burberry adding personalized monogramming, the ever-functional backpack’s made an unexpected return to the season’s catwalks. No longer reserved for school days, this is one blast from the past you’ll be glad to have back in your line-up. Who knew?
The Outdoor Slippers
Want to mimic the comfort and ease of your slippers outdoors but still avoid looking like you’ve given up on life? Say hello to the flat mule. From Gucci’s iconic fur-lined style to Céline’s babouche design, it’s all about being horizontal this season. You can wear them with everything in your wardrobe and the best thing? They’ll look just as good as your spindly spikes —minus the blisters and sore ankles.
What trends are you looking forward to rocking?

I’m so boring when it comes to it; I’ll buy a new pair of Toms and you won’t see me wearing anything else, haha! Although I do like the sound of the minimalist sneakers x

I’m afraid I’ll be sticking to my skinny jeans and my ‘goth’ look as my daughter calls it!! Since I wear darker clothes and have dark hair, I’m apparently like a goth! Well one day I might grow up and change but I doubt it!

Oh I’d love to have that praise top and those minimalist sneakers are so cool. I think I may be hanging onto my tote for a while longer though.

I like the prarie top but I think it’s still too chilly to wear it. Think I’ll be in fleeces and jeans for a while yet.
I’m a huge handbag fan so the alternative tote sounds great. The denim jacket too – I can’t wait to buy myself some new holiday / summer bits this year xx
oh this just makes me long for summer even more and a holiday – love the white sneakers – still love my stan smiths though!! #BloggersClubUK
Loved this post. I am definitely already dreaming of Summer and our holiday especially. I’ve been loving the off the shoulder tops, will definitely be embracing those this summer. Also loving the all white trainers but living in the countryside I can barely keep my white converse clean!! xo

I am so boring when it comes to fashion and like to stick to what I’m used to. So that’s skater dresses which flare at the waist to cover my unsightly areas.

I really like the minimalist sneakers but don’t own any yet! I was admiring them in the shops on Saturday. It’s too cold & wet to wear them here yet. I love seeing the new styles come out each season! Thanks so much for sharing with blogger club uk xx
