Set up the essentials

As the due date approaches, there are some essentials you can start to set up at home. Getting a cot bought and put together is going to be very useful, as well as buying the necessities like nappies, wipes, swaddles, clothing and setting up a changing station – you are going to use this a lot! There are a lot of guides online that you can research for setting up the basics before your little one is here, and you become a parent for the first time.

Learn the basics

YouTube is a brilliant place! There are so many videos on YouTube that you can watch to help prepare you for when your new best friend is here. Try to dedicate a couple of hours a week to watching a few videos on the basics; this way, you are prepared and nothing surprises you. As well as YouTube, there are various online courses which you can sign up for, which will help you in different aspects of being a parent, such as birthing courses. If you look at your government website, you may find a few events are free for you to attend.

Pack your hospital bag in advance

As the months start to approach the due date, you will hear a lot of people saying to start packing your hospital bag, and they are completely right to do so.  When it comes to having a baby, you never know when they are going to come out, meaning you want your bag packed and ready to go far in advance. By doing this, if you do suddenly go into labour, you can quickly grab it and get out of the house, instead of stressing about having it packed. There are plenty of guides online which talk you through the different things you should have in your hospital bag.
