Over the past hundred years, our average life expectancy has significantly increased. Thanks to a better understanding of our bodies and massive advancements in medical technology, living to a 100 is now a possibility. How exciting and amazing is that?
Since having children, I have become a lot more health conscious. I like to eat healthy foods, exercise regularly and do everything that I can to take care of myself. Even if I don’t make it to 100 and receive that all-important letter from the Queen, I want to live to a ripe old age. That’s why, I always make sure to take care of myself.
If the idea of living to 100 – or at least into your 90’s, appeals to you, here’s what you need to do:
Learn to Manage Stress
Stress can have a huge impact on our health, and can lead to all sorts of mental health issues. If you want to lead a long life, you need to learn how to effectively manage stress, so that it doesn’t end up affecting your health.
As a parent, I am always worrying about one thing or another, but I make every effort to manage my stress. If you struggle to keep your stress levels low, practicing yoga or prayer / meditation is a good idea, as this helps to relax your mind and body.
Exercise
You might think that this goes without saying, but very few people actually, workout regularly. So I thought that it might be worth reinforcing how important regular exercise actually is for our bodies.
A study recently found that by working out regularly, you can reduce your chance of getting almost every chronic disease. Going for that run seems a little more worthwhile now, right? From cancer to arthritis, regular exercise can ward off various conditions. Go for a run, hop on your bike, pop to your local pool, do whatever you want, just make sure to stay active.
Moderation
We’ve all seen those nasty adverts that show just how much damage smoking does to our bodies, and yet, some of us still refuse to quit. If you smoke, not only do you have a much higher chance of cancer, but also many other nasty diseases. If you want to live to a ripe old age, you pretty much need to quit smoking. It won’t be easy, but it is such a worthwhile thing to do. If you can’t quit cold turkey, switch to using an electronic cigarette instead. These are much less harmful to your body, as all they contain are steam, nicotine and flavouring. If you choose to swap to one of these, you can even get lots of yummy flavoured Eliquid from Flavour Factory. It might not be the same as a cigarette, but vaping is so much better for your health.
Drank in moderation, alcohol is fine. However, drink too much of it and it can cause various health problems, and even, shorten your life. If you want to live to an old age, limiting your alcohol intake is a must.
Want to live to 100? Yes – then you need to ensure that you always take your health seriously. Eat whole foods, exercise regularly, don’t smoke, and only drink in moderation; do these things and you might make it to triple figures.
