I remember taking my kids on holiday for the first time. I’m not going to go massively into detail but, let’s just say, it didn’t go as planned. I think one of the reasons for this is that I made some mistakes planning the holiday. Okay, I didn’t really plan it at all. I just sort of, let it happen. But I’m older now and a little wiser. That’s why I feel I can impart my wisdom on to new parents who are thinking about taking their kids on vacation for the first time.
Do You Need To Travel Abroad?
Just trust me on this, perhaps a UK based trial run is what you need? You’ll have enough stress and issues to deal with without trying to get your kids on a plane or on a ferry. Think about taking a little one through customs or keeping them entertained on a long flight. You’ll see what I mean once you start to consider those possibilities. Besides, if you live in the UK, there’s really no need to travel far for a great family vacation. Hoburne Holidays have got some beautiful destinations across the South of England for you to choose from. They really are wonderful with lots of fun activities for kids.
Suntan Lotion And Lots Of It
If you’re planning a trip for next summer or you haven’t taken my advice and you are heading abroad, be sure you pack plenty of suntan lotion. If you think having sunburn yourself is annoying and painful, just wait until your kids get it. They won’t be able to do anything, the holiday will be pretty much over for them and they’ll have to stay indoors. Particularly if it’s severe. You can avoid this if you slather the stuff on and don’t take any risks. Remember, the weather can be deceptive. It was a lot hotter than it looked this year, even in Britain.
Research Your Destination
I suggest you thoroughly research where you’re heading off to. That way you can find all the experiences and activities you can do to keep your kids entertained. If you are planning a summer holiday make sure that you find activities for rainy days as well. There’s no guarantees the weather will be beautiful, no matter where you’re going. Even if you head to Dubai you could find yourself in doors because of a sandstorm.
Pack With A List
Have you ever forgotten something when you’ve gone on holiday? Just wait until you pack a suitcase and forget to include your little one’s favourite toy. Or worse, something as serious as medication! The best way to avoid this is to write a list, pretend you’re Santa and check it twice. Then before you go check it one more time. Once you’re sure, you’ve got everything you need, head out the door and don’t look back.
Take Plenty Of Pictures
Finally this is your first and as parents, we always want to remember the firsts. You should make sure you have a good quality camera to get wonderful snaps of your first holiday with the kids. I hope it’s spectacular.

Speaking as somebody who’s just got back from their first holiday with a baby, this is excellent advice. Also, plan to ditch plans.
