Why I’m Adding Greece to my Bucket List

January and February are the best times of the year to book a holiday, so choosing where to go next has been on my mind. But with so many places to visit, where do you start? I have a bit of a bucket list that seems to be never-ending, but Greece is definitely up there on my list of places to visit. But it goes further than just that, as the country is so varied and made up of a whole host of islands, as well as the mainland. So in reality, I think it will mean quite a few trips over there to get do all that I want.

Have you ever been? It would be good to hear the location in Greece that you chose, from hotels in Santorini to villas in Paros. But really, there are so many reasons why planning a trip to Greece, to any part of it, is one of my top choices, and it can make a great choice pretty much all year round. Here are just a few of the reasons why:

Food and Drink

The Greek diet is something that is recommended for health as it is full of healthy oils as well as plenty of salads and veggies. I love Greek food like tzatziki, moussaka, and souvlaki, not to mention hummus, pita, and olives. The sweet foods are even healthy, as there are things like yogurt, honey, and walnuts. So a trip there is going to be full of goodness.

Some of Europe’s Best Beaches

The images of the Greek islands are always of the idyllic turquoise waters and the stunning white beaches; they really are some of the best in Europe, and even the world. There are many beaches to choose from and they can range from quite busy beaches with sun loungers and umbrellas to beaches that are a little more secluded. Being able to get out and about on a boat trip is one of my favourite things to do when we travel, so would definitely want to enjoy being at sea if I went to Greece.

Remarkable History

Despite what my GCSE History grade shows you, I am actually a bit of a history geek, and Greece has such a wide and varying history that dates so far back. Being able to explore temples, ruins, Olympic sites, and things like museums and the Acropolis in Athens would be amazing. There are so many things to choose from though, especially in a place like Athens. Which is why looking into Withlocals private tours in Athens could be a good idea to make sure that you get to see and experience a whole host of different things.

Island Hopping

Good weather and being able to relax can be done in a whole host of places all around the world. So being able to see and experience a few different places all on the same trip, is such a good idea. I love the idea of island hopping around the Greek islands, as there some amazing places to choose from, like Santorini and Crete, each offering something different and new.

Perfect Weather

Don’t get me wrong, you can get sunshine in a lot of places. But Greece has pretty much great weather all year round. The winter can be pretty mild and the summer can be glorious, with all different temperatures in-between. April to June are meant to be the best times to visit, as July and august can get rather hot. But if I went without kids, I think the temperature would be bearable in summer.

Affordability

Going away doesn’t come cheap these days, that is for sure. But Greece is somewhere that is relatively affordable. The cost of accommodation and general cost of living in Greece (such as groceries and so on), is generally a lot less than it is in other parts of Europe. So if you were to stay in Airbnb accommodation and self-cater, for instance, it could be really reasonable.

Hospitality of Greek People

If you have ever seen a movie with a Greek family in it, you will see how fun and friendly they all are. And from what I have heard, when you visit it is no different as they are so friendly and hospitable. They are kind to strangers and it can be a great place to meet new people, especially if travelling solo.

Have you ever been to Greece? It would be great to hear what you think.
