London is one of those places everybody should go at least once. It’s funny and when I was living in Yorkshire, I saw it as this really big city that scared me a little if I’m honest. Now being an adopted southerner, I go to London much more and I’m starting to know my way around. The husband works in London and the commute can be a drag – just have to remember that people travel from all over the world to visit it, and he gets to do that every day. Running down the mall on your lunch break can’t be all that bad 😉
It is such a diverse place with a ridiculous amount of things to do there. You won’t believe how different it can be from one area to the next. Here are some reasons everyone should go to London at least once:
- The Royal Family
Not going to lie, I’m a bit of a Royalist so for me this is a really novel exciting thing. You might not be a huge fan of the queen, but it can be very interesting to go along and see things like Buckingham Palace. You can also see Windsor castle. When the flag flies, that means the queen is home!
- You Can Discover Little Known Areas
By simply walking around London, you can discover little known areas and treasures you would never have found otherwise. Not everything will be outlined in guides. Of course, you can do all of the standard touristy things, but taking time to explore alone can be a lot of fun too.
- Shopping
The shopping in London is like no other. You can go vintage shopping at some charming little shops, or browse the markets for some one of a kind buys – I love wandering around Spitalfields which on a weekend, is surprisingly quiet. If that isn’t your thing, there’s of course, Oxford Street! Here you’ll find some big name stores that you love, as well as the famous Harrods. It isn’t unusual to find somebody famous shopping at Harrods, so keep an eye out. You might not be able to afford anything in there, but it’s worth a look.
- Diverse Food Choices
As the population of London is diverse, so is the food. The food is only getting better and better too! You can find some delicious and cost effective street food at the London markets, but you can also find a restaurant to suit your tastes too. Whether you want Indian, Chinese, French, or Traditional English, you’ll find it. There’s so much more too!
- More Green Space Than Any Other City
In London, there’s more green space than any other city. This means there are a ton of parks for you to kick back in and enjoy in London. Take a book, or have a picnic. In some, you can even enjoy an outdoor cinema!
- Always Something Fun Going On
There’s always something fun going on in London. Theatre shows, live gigs, nights out, and carnivals. London has it all! You’ll always find something on for the date you’re planning your visit. You can find something suitable for singles, partners, friends, and even your whole family. So many of the museums are free too, so there is lots to do and see.
Are you convinced that you need to visit London at least once? There are so many more reasons to get yourself along, but I couldn’t possibly fit them all on one post. If you’ve been to London, please let me know why you love it in the comments below!

I have only been to London a handful of times and we keep saying we should go more often as we are only 2 hours away on the train. So much to experience and I love the fact it has more green spaces than any other city #citytripping

I completely agree – my mum grew up in London and so we used to visit my grandparents here every year as kids. Then I’ve lived here for most of the past 17 years, my husband is a born Londoner and my daughter too. For all its faults, it is such a wonderful, diverse, buzzing city, and so much to discover even if you live here – as you say, you could do whole trips themed around just one of your suggestions and still not repeat yourself. Thanks for linking up with #citytripping

So glad that as an Yorkshire woman you have grown to love London… it’s a great place…and so much to do, see and eat! You are right, the food just keeps getting better and I love that I can eat out or get a takeaway for practically every cuisine going. Thanks for linking to #citytripping

Oh I’m a royalist too 🙂 I have only been to London twice, and both visits were too short. I LOVE London – yeah, there are so many things to do and see. If only the exchange rates were more favourable, then I wouldn’t mind making several trips to UK! #citytripping
