As a rule, I much prefer to get the children wooden toys. I think they are generally a lot more durable and I think that generally they look nicer too. The colours can be more subtle and just generally nicer, if that makes sense? We have been trying out toys from Wood & Wonder – a site specifically for wooden toys for children. They have an exciting selection of funky wooden toys to inspire imagination and creative play for babies to preschoolers.
I really like the ethos of the company and the idea that toys like these encourage creative and imaginative play, which is so important. They believe that it is not a case of pushing a button and watching a battery-operated toy do its own thing – children must manually push, pull, turn, lift, shake, rattle and roll. I completely agree!
It also goes without saying that wooden toys have far less impact on the environment than plastic ones. Wood & Wonder use sustainably sourced timber and natural materials contain less, if any, toxins, and thus are much safer for your child too.
This is the Colour & Shape Sorter toy and costs £10.95.
Anyway, you can see how Chloe got on with it here. It is suitable for children from 18 months and as she is basically 18 months, I can see that it is perfectly suited for her. The coordination and shape sorting is perfect for her development right now.
I really liked this wooden shape sorter toy and I would recommend it if you have young ones that it is suitable for. The Wood & Wonder website on a whole is really great with a big range of toys, not all just aimed at the youngest children but a range for toddlers and preschoolers too. They are really reasonably priced which is a bonus – I will definitely look into buying from Wood & Wonder in the future. The toys are good quality, educational and you can be pretty sure that they will stand the test of time.
You can follow Wood & Wonder on Twitter & Facebook.
