After the excitement of Christmas and the back-to-work blues, January is a great time to plan your family holiday. Escape the long, dark evenings and hard frosts with thoughts of bright sunshine, soft white sand, and deep blue oceans at some beautiful beaches.
It’s a medical fact that beach holidays are good for us. Swimming and water sports are excellent forms of exercise and salt water is good for the skin. But our main reason for heading off to a sunny climate is that it feeds the soul. Stunning views, new cultures, delicious food, and relaxation are our ultimate goal. When planning your next stress-free family vacation, check out these idyllic beach destinations.
China Beach, Vietnam
If you’re seeking a traditional sandy beach with a clean, blue ocean in an interesting location, China Beach is for you. It is situated to the south of Danang and is close to Magic Mountain. It offers everything a family beach should; soft sand, water fun and easy access to cold drinks, seafood and ice cream.
Santorini beaches are different to your average beach, due to their geographical location. Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. With its multicoloured cliffs and red and black volcanic pebbles, it’s a sight to behold. The most well-known of Santorini’s beaches is the Red Beach. It is a two-minute walk down the cliff, or it can be accessed by sea. Snorkelling is popular due to the interesting rocks.
Kamari, Perissa, and Vlychada are also notable beaches in the area and worth a visit. One of the many Santorini villas will help you to make the most of the spectacular scenery, with their breathtaking ocean views.
Phra Nang Beach Railay, Thailand
This beach is just a 20-minute walk from the town of Railay. There is lots to see and explore here, including interesting caves. Some can be accessed via the water, making them ideal for older kids. There’s a lot of folklore connected with this beach. Local fishermen believe that one of the caves or the ‘Princess Cave’ is home to a mythical sea princess. Local longtail boats provide refreshments including baguettes, fruit juice, and fresh fruit.
Coronado Central Beach, San Diego, USA
Coronado Central Beach provides sunshine all year round. The soft sloping beach is ideal for smaller children to run around on and enjoy paddling. The surf is gentle, and the beach is manned by lifeguards. There are lots of fun activities, in and out of the water, to keep the whole family occupied. For example, volleyball courts, sandcastle competitions, boogie boarding and bodysurfing.
Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres, Mexico
The shallow waters of Playa Norte make this beautiful beach an ideal location for families with young children. There are no sudden drops, and so it’s perfect for paddling and wading. Many beach restaurants provide free beach chairs and umbrellas if you intend to stay and eat with them. This is a much quieter beach and doesn’t attract the party crowd.
De-icing your car tomorrow morning and crawling through rush hour traffic will be so much more bearable if you have a beach holiday to look forward to later in the year. When doing your research, check out these beautiful beach destinations. You won’t be disappointed.
