Motherhood can be one of the most amazing and rewarding times of your life. But it can also be one of the most grueling times and it can seriously impact your physical and mental health.
All the late-night feeds and early morning rises that come with young children can take their toll on your skin. When you are a mom, you have next to no time to yourself, and the spare time you do have is taken up with chores, making ‘me time’ a distant memory.
However, as well as the exhaustion that motherhood brings, sleepless nights can give us dark circles, a poor complexion, and puffy eyes. This is because sleep makes our skin enter a repair mode and any damage to our skin that has occurred during the day can repair and rest.
For most moms, a complex and thorough skin care routine is no longer an option in their busy schedules, so here are a few skin care tips to give your skin a much-needed boost.

Cleanse Twice a Day
Even if you don’t have the time to do anything else at all to your skin, it is important that you keep it clean! Cleansing your face twice a day is an essential part of any skin care routine, as it helps to protect your skin from developing spots and other blemishes. Keeping your skin cleansed and fresh is also a great way to keep your skin looking younger for longer.
You should cleanse when you wake up in the morning as well as when you get into bed at night. You will be surprised by how much dirt there is in the morning, even though you only cleaned your face the night before!
Top tip: Keep a basket of products by your bed, which could include CBD creams, cleanser, and things like lip balm, so that you can quickly cleanse as soon as you wake up.
Tea Tree Oil is Your Best Friend
Tea tree oil is one of the best natural products out there for your skin and is one of the best ways to prevent and limit breakouts. It is also a great product to use if you suffer from eczema or dry skin, as it has anti-inflammatory qualities that will help to soothe pain or irritation.
Many people use natural tea tree oil and apply it to their skin when spots and other blemishes form. Another top tip for busy moms who don’t have the time or the money to buy multiple skin care products is to add a drop of tea tree oil to a moisturizer before using it.
Tea tree oil is included in many skin care products, such as toners and face washes, as the benefits for the skin are well-known amongst manufacturers.
Don’t Forget to Use SPF
Most people are guilty of not applying SPF daily, especially busy moms who forget or who don’t think they have the time. Even if the sun isn’t that visible when you get up in the morning, it is essential that you use a minimum of SPF 30 in order to protect your skin from sun rays.
There are also BB (blemish balm) creams available that offer a tinted cream that can be used instead of foundation. These also offer SPF and will protect you from the sun. Making sure that you are protected from the sun will help to keep you young, as sun damage can cause your skin to dehydrate.
Using a BB cream with SPF is a great way to protect your skin while also quickly giving you a touch of light makeup to your face without having to spend time applying foundation or powder.
Micellar Water is an Essential
Micellar water is a savior when it comes to needing a quick but effective way to keep your face clean, as it targets dirt in your skin and pores. It is a type of chemical that clears your face of any traces of makeup or dirt. It is also handy to have by the bed for a quick nighttime routine, as unlike other cleansers, it doesn’t require you to wash it off afterward.
Instead, when using micellar water, you just pour an appropriate amount onto a cotton round and then gently sweep across your face. You may want to do this a few times to be sure that all the dirt and leftover makeup has gone. You can then follow this with a toner, to double cleanse and ensure your face is completely clean.
Schedule Yourself Some Pamper Time
Being a mom is hard work and finding time for yourself is near impossible. But it is important that you try to make time for yourself when you can. You should reach out to your significant other or friends and family and see if they could maybe take the kids for a few hours, so you get some time for yourself.
During this period, you take this opportunity to have a relaxing soak and spend some time taking care of your skin. You could even treat yourself to a facial, to give you that fresh and glowing feel that will make you feel much more rejuvenated once it is time to be a mom again. Facials can be really beneficial and to find out about the different ways they can improve your skin, you can read more here.
Moisturize
Long nights and stressful days can make your skin dry, so it is essential that you use a moisturizer to keep it as hydrated as possible. Using moisturizer ensures that your skin is smooth, clear, and decreases your risk of wrinkles in the future. If you are a busy mom, then you just need to find that one moisturizer that makes you and your skin feel great.
When you are a busy mom with children and a house to look after, taking care of your skin can seem the last thing on your list of priorities, but by following these simple tips, you and your skin will soon be glowing!
