4 Relaxing Activities to De-Stress

Life in general can be stressful at times, and there is no doubt that the everyday stresses and strains can get on top of you, sometimes when you least expect it. It’s important that you take time to sit back, relax and make some time for yourself.  That way you will be much more productive in your family life and your job, and you’ll have more time for the things that you enjoy. We have put together some activity ideas for you, so you can relax and de-stress.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses essential oils, which are extracted from plants, to promote good health and enhances both physical and emotional well-being. It is the terpenes that are extracted from within the plants, as it is terpenes that give each plant (like lavender or rose) its distinctive smell. This article explains how to use terpenes if you have never heard of these. Aromatherapy works best when it comes with a massage. The combination of essential oils with the massage can have amazing effects.  Don’t worry if you need to miss out on the massage bit, you can achieve some great stress-reducing results by having a nice warm bath and putting in some essential oils.  If you couple this with some calming music, you should get out feeling much more relaxed than you did before.  Aromatherapy is one of the best treatments for stress there is.

Yoga

Yoga is of course a form of exercise, but it will also reduce your stress levels. It is a practice for both the mind and the body, that allows you to incorporate elements of meditation and relaxation.  There are certain postures that are designed for relaxation such as child’s pose.  As you continue on your yoga journey, the idea is that you reach new levels of relaxation and release your emotional energy.  There are some great books and DVD’s for beginners to get you started if it’s not something you have tried before – or there are bound to be classes in your area. You could also check Pureful Yoga for some more information on yoga.

Kayaking

Although you may think at first that this sounds like an adventure sport – it’s actually incredibly relaxing.  When you go kayaking, you are at one with nature, and exploring all different lakes and oceans.  The sound of the water alone is a calming experience, and the exercise that it takes will create a much more positive mood.  Make sure that you read inflatable kayak reviews first (these are a great alternative to traditional kayaks if you want something portable) if you are looking to turn this into a regular hobby and purchase a kayak so you can choose one that’s right for you.

Walking

This may sound simple, but walking is a great way to relax. If the weather is good, you can take a stroll somewhere quiet and get your thoughts together.  You can go somewhere like a beach and listen to the waves, or maybe a forest where you can hear the sounds of nature in the background for a calming effect.  You will also find some great walking trails where you can enjoy some great scenery.  It’s a fantastic way to take some time for yourself, without having to spend money.

If you haven’t taken time out for yourself to relax, then you may want to try out some of the activities on our list.  Make sure you pencil some me-time in.
